"We have been calling on San Angelo since we moved out here 10 years ago, whenever we have a plumbing issue. Replace grinder, replace hot water heater, upgrade outside faucets, repair toilet, install water line for refrigerator. Each and every time they have gone above and beyond. Gianni always goes the extra mile to make sure its done right. Highly recommend."

"Edwards Mechanical LLC are the epitome of professionalism. They responded very quickly, analyzed the problem and resolved the problem quickly. I have called them out for issues with my boiler over six different times and they have acted the same way each time. When I have Heating or Cooling issues, I only call Edwards Mechanical LLC. Very professional, very reasonable prices and high quality workmanship. What else could you ask for?"

"Competitive quote on a Bryant furnace (a little less than the other Angi-recommended professional and a lot less than our usual "go-to" people). Furnace installation completed quickly and professionally. One follow up visit to correct a minor thermostat issue and to install a complementary carbon monoxide detector. Would recommend!"

What started out as a good experience with air Conditioning Engineers really took a strange twist.  Please read this in its entirety.

My wife and I met with Bob Strang of Air Conditioning Engineers.  He was nice to deal with, no pressure and knowledgeable.    A rough estimate was given and he later came to the house to get a better assessment of the job and give a final estimate.  His prices were competitive, just a tad higher than our other quote, yet we felt more at ease with him.

The technicians, Tom and Dan arrived as scheduled and were very professional and nice to deal with.  (Unlike the obnoxious a** sent here a number of years ago from Williams Heating and Cooling.)   Unfortunately, the techs were unable to run the chimney liner required for our water heater.  They certainly tried, yet either some mortar or the bend in the flue prevented them from pulling it through.  OK I understand that problems occur.  This item was originally overlooked in their price estimate so I explicitly recall that our estimate was increased by $400 for liner installation.  I relayed this information to the techs and they reduced the balance due by $400.  Makes sense, they were unable to provide the service prescribed.   I was advised and provided a name of a contractor who only did chimney liners and was more proficient.  So far, a setback, yet not really their fault.

The following day Bob from Air Conditioning Engineers called.  He asked what I was going to do next about the chimney liner.   He also informed me that his guys wasted an hour trying to install the liner and that the liner was damaged during this process.  He then informed me that this problem cost him $400 and asked if I would help pay for half!  I was caught off guard and told him I?d think about it as I actually considered it!   I checked with an instructor who teaches HVAC at MCC.  His rule of thumb for conducting business - he would not have even considered charging for an attempt, only for completed work.   That?s why one hires as contractor!  If a guide was used to pull the liner it would not have been damaged.  The damaged end could be shortened and reused.  The cost for this part is approx. $110 without any contractor discount.  I don?t see how they can claim a $400 cost and am not liable for their problems.

To make matters worse, I found that the technicians broke off three of the brackets required for securing my chimney cap.  I suppose they didn?t understand what they were for as the cap was removed, due to storm damage.   Once again, under normal circumstances I?d call and have them repair it.  I won?t call as I don?t need to be hounded for more money.  My choices now are to install 3 separate matching caps and install them myself ($30 -35 each at Home Depot)  or fabricate the 3 brackets and reinstall my custom cap (approx. $30 total material but more labor and more trips up and down the roof of my two story home).   I did relay this information on the customer satisfaction form and it went ignored.  The whole money issue really seemed strange and enough for me to take my business elsewhere.  If any warranty maintenance or repairs are required in the future, I am concerned this could have a negative impact.

It gets worse; later, when we turned on the furnace I noticed condensate dripping on the floor and stains on the exhaust pipe.  2 of the joints were not glued.  Along with the moisture I?m sure a certain amount of Carbon Monoxide gas was leaking into my home, a very dangerous situation.  I did disassemble and glue the exhaust properly.    Also the condensate drain causes puddling of water around my drain.   I?ll add an elbow and make a hole to accept it in the drain cover at a later date.

UPDATE - Bob and I have seemed to have worked out any differences.  He went out of his way to do so.  He's such a likable cuss what can I say!  Bottom line is always, would you do repeat business and my answer is yes.

"They came out, reviewed the problem, quickly figured out what was wrong, brought back a toilet and installed it.  I am happy with the work and the results.  The owner and those who came out to the house were all very professional and polite.  I am totally happy with the service.

"New special order unit came in very quickly, and installation was scheduled for the next day. Old unit was removed and hauled away. New unit was professionally installed with attention to detail not present on the old unit. No damage to walls or floors, and installers used extra measures to prevent outside dirt, snow, and water from being tracked into the house. Very happy with the entire purchase/installation experience."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a way to heat your home that is lower in cost and higher in efficiency, you should run the numbers to see what it would look like to switch to gas or electric heat. The best choice for how to heat your home depends on your location, budget, and energy priorities.

Costs depend on unit size, labor, fuel type, and whether additional piping or venting is needed.

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.

Professional HVAC installation requires licensed expertise in several areas, including electrical- and plumbing-related work. An HVAC team must know how to safely handle regulated refrigerant chemicals and the gas, oil, or propane used in furnaces and boilers. A proper HVAC installation protects your home from energy loss, fires, and even carbon monoxide leaks.

Boiler installations and replacements cost between $3,600 to $8,400. Expect to pay around $5,900 on average for a new boiler, including installation. Adding new radiators or heaters to the boiler may include separate costs if you are also upgrading those components, so the final price may be higher. To decrease costs, you can look for local energy rebates for using a boiler and wait until installers are offering discounts for a first-time installation.
