"Zach is great, we have been using him for years. Service is top notch, he is an expert in the industry and does not try and sell you unneeded service parts as many others in the industry do. You will not be disappointed using Edwards Mechanical for your heating and cooling needs. "Four years ago, we hired Schutz to install a AC in our older 1960's tri-level home. This has been one of the best home improvement decisions I've ever made. Retro-fitting an older home with AC is no small feat! Yet Tony and his crew did an outstanding job. Not only were they professional and thorough in the installation, but they were impeccably clean as well. The AC they installed has kept us "cool as a cucumber" on many blisteringly hot summer days. When it came time for our old boiler to be replaced, it was a no-brainer to figure out who to call. Once again, Tony and his crew at Schutz did an amazing job of removing our antiquated system and installing a beautiful new boiler and new garage closet to enclose the unit. As before, his guys were professional, thorough, timely, courteous and CLEAN! We have been kept warm and cozy all winter long! I am happy to recommend this company."

"They were very knowledgeable and thorough. Did a great job, so we asked them to come back to do some recommended work (replacing corroded valves, etc.). May need to replace our boiler in the future, but they added what I think will be years of life to our current boiler. If we ever replace our boiler, we will have them do the work.

"I called the company out to have my A/C replaced along with air handler. Gave me a pretty respectable price due to our current economy. Gave me options from top of the line equipment all the way down to more affordable options as well. Clean looking job very responsive and respectable well rounded guy, even maintenance my boiler took it apart cleaned my burners and and check water quality and safeties along with a combination check. Couldn’t be happier with the job and service! Thanks again!!!"

"What a great experience. I received my first call from Patriot plumbing 5 minutes after my request to Service magic. The communication between us by phone and email was flawless and my new heater was installed at the requested day. I was impressed with the workmanship, punctuality and courtesy of James and Gary. I would definitely recommend Patriot plumbing and use them again for further work."

"Called several companies but only A & M could come for repairs in my desired timeframe. They rescheduled to come even sooner and fixed my dual unit A/C in less than 1 hour. I don't know if it was the best price but I needed the service and they delivered. My house is nice and cool."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

There are several types of home radiators, and the most common are steam heat radiators, electric radiators, and dual-fuel radiators. Steam heat radiators are connected to a boiler. Electric radiators can operate without being connected to anything else—they just need an electrical outlet. If you have a dual-fuel radiator, you’ll see a valve at the bottom of the system with a wire coming out of it and going into a wall. These are often your towel radiators in the bathroom. The type of radiator you have will impact how you turn it on.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

Always consult your manual for specific pressure numbers. Many expansion tanks come pre-pressurized at a specific PSI range, anywhere from 12 to 40 PSI, designed for a range of home boilers. You should not have to pressurize an expansion tank yourself, only the boiler system. If your system has a tank that needs to be manually pressurized, this is generally a job for professionals and their tools.

No, there isn’t always water in radiators. In a one-pipe system, water is constantly circulating from the boiler to the radiators and back. In a two-pipe system, water travels through two separate channels: one that goes to your radiators and one that returns back to the boiler so it can heat up again.

In most cases, repairing a radiator is more affordable than replacing it. A typical repair may cost between $100 and $200, while a replacement can average $1,500, with a range of $250 to $2,500 depending on the unit type. Radiator issues are often simple fixes for a professional, such as a blown fuse, malfunctioning thermostat, or a loose valve, and can take less than an hour. However, if the long-term costs of fixing the radiator are higher than replacement, it's better to get a new model. It is recommended to consult a heating expert to diagnose the problem and determine the best solution for your situation.
