Customers say: Quick response

"I called Austin Insulation after checking with a few other local competitors. I figured since my name is Austin, these guys HAVE to be the best around. Rob was able to get the job done today within days of my initial call which was HUGE because everyone else was weeks to months out. I think people are passing Austin Insulation because of the small amount of Google reviews; don't make that mistake. They had the best price and fantastic service, please give them your business"

"These guys did a really excellent job. Completely insulated an overhanging window wall in our front bedroom which had not been insulated by the builder! Sealed it off in the basement so none leaked out onto our floor. Also completely cleaned up all their mess. I was really impressed with them, would gladly hire them again if we ever need more insulation."

"Could not ask for a better experience with a home project. The two young men sent to do the work were most courteous, on-time, professional and thorough in their work keeping us informed of each action and approx. timeline. These young men, and the services performed, truly reflect the service commitment of the owners to their customers like us! We are most pleased with the work and look forward to further benefitting from the work with our insulation needs. Would rehire, if needed. "We did a lot of research before deciding on King-Bur Insulation to add 20 inches of blown-in cellulose insulation to our house and garage attic. Bruce and his crew were very thorough and professional as well as easy to work with. We are very happy with the services and Bruce even helped us apply for energy saving rebates from Consumers Power for the added insulation. We highly recommend Bruce and the King-Bur insulation team."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

There are many reasons one bedroom may be hotter than the rest of the house. The sun will quickly heat a south-facing bedroom with a large window, especially if it lacks quality curtains. If the room has poor insulation, this could let more warm outside air in. Upstairs bedrooms are often hotter than ground-floor rooms because heat rises. Finally, rooms further away from the air conditioning unit may heat up a lot if the system is not properly balanced.

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.

If you’re a savvy DIYer around the house, own the basic tools, and have enough time on your hands, you can definitely install fiberglass insulation yourself. Doing the work yourself will certainly keep overall insulation costs down. However, if you’re not confident in your handy skills around the house, call in a professional.

The lifespan of insulation depends on the material type. Fiberglass can last between 80 and 100 years, but it is important to start checking it around the 15-year mark. Spray foam has a lifespan of up to 100 years, and mineral wool can last up to 100 years. Cellulose, an eco-friendly option, has a lifespan of 20 to 30 years.

Not necessarily. A higher R-value simply means that the insulation has a higher heat resistance and performs better in terms of how much heat passes through the material. This can be better for some homes, or it can be too high of an R-value for other homes. Again, your climate zone determines whether the insulation is better for your home.
