"They crushed and replaced 2 septic tanks. They were very easy to work with and the follow up was wonderful. They were in constant contact if any changes occurred with the project. Great Job Dave!"

"I was told my drainfield would need to be replaced by a company that was pumping my tanks after they overflowed. The pump company gave me a quote to do the work. I called golden septic and a few other excavators for quotes on the replacement and got mostly voicemails. Travis and Kelvin from golden septic came out the next day and asked to try to fix the system first because they didnâ t think the drainfield looked bad enough to be not working at all. After digging up an area around the tank they found the pipe going to the drainfield was old and had broken not far from the tank. I ended up saving thousands of dollars by calling them."

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

"He was prompt, efficient, professional and reasonably priced. He determined that the softener was fine but my pressure tank probably had a split in the inner liner because it had water in it. He gave me a rough idea of what needed to be done and is getting together an estimate for me. I decided to get a second opinion and had a certified/licensed plumber check it out. The plumber did a water test and checked out my pressure tank. Everything is fine. The water test came back good with only trace amounts of iron. I would use Bob again but only for handyman type of work. He did a great job hanging closet doors for me."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Septic tank locations are sometimes public record, although it depends on local laws and the property age. Older properties may not have the septic tank information on public record. To check, you can talk to local permitting agencies, such as your local health department, the local environmental department, or the county clerk.

To keep roots from growing into a septic tank. However, there are other steps you can take if existing tree roots are getting close to your septic tank. For one, you can install root barriers, which physically block roots from reaching your septic tank. You can also use chemical solutions in your yard or plumbing system to deter root growth.

A properly installed and maintained septic drain field (also known as a leach field) can last up to 50 years, though the average is around 20 years. However, factors like poor soil conditions, heavy usage, or improper maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan to 15-20 years.

To extend the life of your drain field:

  • Schedule Regular Inspections: Have the entire septic system, including the drain field, inspected every two to five years to catch problems early.

  • Protect the Area: Avoid driving heavy vehicles or placing heavy structures over the drain field. Plant only grass or other lightweight vegetation with shallow roots over the area.

  • Maintain the Septic Tank: Proper care of the septic tank, including regular pumping and avoiding harmful chemicals, prevents strain on the drain field.

Be aware of signs of failure, such as strange odors, standing water, or unusually lush grass over the field, which indicate your system may need professional attention.

The pressure in a well pressure tank should be set 2 to 3 PSI below the pump's cut-on pressure. The cut-on pressure is the lower number in the pressure setting (e.g., the '30' in 30/50 PSI) and is the point at which the pump starts. The cut-out pressure is the higher number, where the pump stops.

For example:

  • If your pressure switch is set to 30/50 PSI, the tank pressure should be 27-28 PSI.

  • If your pressure switch is set to 40/60 PSI, the tank pressure should be 38 PSI.

Common pressure settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60 PSI. The difference between the cut-on and cut-out pressure is typically 20 PSI.

The average lifespan of a deep well pump is between 15 and 25 years, after which you’ll have to replace it. Several factors can affect the lifespan of a well pump, such as the quality of the unit. Proper maintenance and repair can also help extend your well pump’s lifespan as well as keep adequate water flow and pressure throughout your home.
