"Mr. Pipey Plumbing is awesome! I had a new renant move in Friday. He found the shower and sink drains clogged, so I called Mr. Pipey at 3:00, set up an appointment, they showed up same day from a job location down the road, assessed the issue, and rocked out my drain issues in the bathroom. They got there at 5, out by 6 - all clear. Professional, easy to work with, tenant is happy, cost was very reasonable and fair. I will use them again now at my rental house locations."

"I highly recommend Mike Elinski and his team at Perma Dry. Last winter we had a small leak coming from a hairline crack at about face-height on one of our basement walls. We called Mike and he promptly drove out to have a look. He quoted us a price which we accepted. He then had one of his employees come out to seal the crack. When the work was done Mike and his employee worried that the issue might be something other than the crack. So Mike refused to accept payment even though we insisted. We waited a few months and the problem never reappeared. So we asked him to send us a bill so we could pay him. He refused. Months went by and Metro Detroit got hit with heavy rains. We started noticing leaking near the floor in other areas of the basement. Then on July 24 there was a major downpour and we got about an inch or two of water in our basement. This had nothing to do with the crack that Perma Dry had repaired. We called Mike, and, after he thought it over, he suggested an interior French drain with sump pump. He quoted us a fair price and we accepted. He then sent a team out who performed the work. They were hard workers. Very professional and polite. Got the job done in two days. And they cleaned up after themselves. The city inspectors came out and said they'd done very good work. If you have water issues in your basement, save yourself some time, trouble, money, and hassle and call Perma Dry. Mike and his team will treat you well."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.

Yes, sewage smells can originate from a floor drain. If the P-Trap in the floor drain dries out or if there's a clog or other issue in the plumbing system, sewer gasses can escape through the drain, causing nasty odors. Regularly pouring water into the drain helps maintain the water seal and prevent those smells, but if the smell persists, you should have a plumbing professional inspect the drain for potential problems.

In some cases, operating a snake can damage your drain and pipes. This depends on the overall condition of your pipes and how gently you operate the auger. For instance, older galvanized pipes covered in zinc are susceptible to scratches when using a drain snake. Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.

Yes, many services include camera inspections to identify the cause of the blockage. Confirm with your provider.

Most commercial liquid drain cleaners work in 15 to 30 minutes. Consult the label on the bottle for additional instructions or time suggestions to prevent damage to your drainpipes. Alternative solutions such as baking soda, salt, white vinegar, and/or boiling water can take longer since they are less harsh than liquid drain cleaners.
