"
It went amazingly well.  We were worried about the disruption that would be caused by having our bathroom, which is attached to our bedroom, torn apart for several weeks, but Devin and his team could not have made it easier.  They put plastic sheeting over everything in our bedroom during the day during the demolition phase, and also rolled up our very large rug (and replaced it under our king-sized bed after they were done with the work).  They got everything done in the amount of time promised.  The crew were uniformly terrific -- nice, incredibly competent guys.   Devin was  great to work with.  Anything we wanted, he was able to figure out.  He could not have been more accommodating or helpful.  We've worked with a lot of great contractors over the years, and Devin is definitely a star.  Our bathroom designer, Debbie Gray, recommended him, and they worked together really well.  I have recommended the team to several friends already.  "

"I wish I could give ten stars. Came home from Christmas to a literal waterfall in my house. Steven and his crew were absolutely the best team I could have asked for. Understanding, communicative, empathetic and on top of all that, the quality of their work is EXCELLENT. My entire first floor was taken down to studs and rebuilt and it's better than it was before the disaster."

"I’ve used Allen and his team on multiple projects. He is my go-to contractor because I can trust him to tell me what I need and what I don’t need to have done in a project. His prices may be higher than others but the quality is worth it. In this most recent project, Allen took my laundry area from concrete and concrete block, to a fully finished laundry room complete with new appliances, counters and cabinets for storage and folding, a space for drying clothes to hang, and a closed off utility space. Additionally, he changed a half-bath to a full bathroom with 5-ft shower. To do this, Allen, Jeff, and Ryan had to dig up the concrete floor to move pipes; had to replace copper piping, and reroute ductwork. In doing so, they found that my dryer had been venting into my ceiling rather than outside, which was a fire hazard. I am fortunate that they found this. As the project was wrapping up, I had them paint and add new flooring in the family room adjacent to the laundry and bathrooms. I also had them replace my backyard fencing, relocate the outside spigot and hose attachment. As with all of my projects, Allen’s the attention to detail was beyond compare. He kept me in the loop when problems or decisions need to be made."

"Our technician was on time and sealed our storm door to prevent water from leaking in. He also fixed the lock and the screen door on our sliding glass doors making them finally functional again and taught us how to grease the sliding door so it runs smoother. Excellent work and completed in a timely fashion."

"The project manager of the remodel, Jason, was always in contact with me about when workers would be at the house and to see how everything was going. He also stopped by the house to check on the work. Ismar, the head employee of the job, was very good. He put down tarps to cover the floors and put plastic about the furniture and cabinet in bathroom. He also put up plastic between the bathroom and the bedroom to minimize the dust. The workers were very professional. The tile work in the shower was great. They also had to hang some drywall to fix a closet and paint it. It looks like that was always how the closet was. The shower come out beautiful. I would highly recommend the company and would differently use them again."

"It was a pleasure again working with Yosuary Diaz and his team on our unfinished basement renovation. We hired them before for whole house interior painting. I would definitely hire him again for other home renovations. Him and his crew are great and are very skilled at what they do. Diaz was not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive contractor, but overall, well worth it! We had our entire basement gutted out and rebuilt. Diaz and his team rebuilt everything from the sub-flooring, new walls, and plumbing...and other major infrastructure that is not always thought of. We love our new basement with a complete bathroom! We highly recommend Yosuary Diaz and his team if you have a major home project."

Customers say: Quality work

"We cannot say enough good things about Elevate Design and Build! We extended our kitchen with a bump-out and added an additional bedroom over it on the 2nd floor. We also turned our previous dining room into an office and redid all of the door and window framing. It was a fairly extensive job. Jim did a fabulous job with the design and incorporated everything we wanted (that was within our budget). I've never worked with a designer and the whole experience was so much fun! We were intially worried about the hallway flow with the new upstairs room, but we LOVE how that turned out. The whole interior was thoughtfully designed and looks beautiful. We love our new kitchen space and 6 months after its completion I still get excited when I walk into the new space. We were also so pleased with the exterior addition design. It looks so cool and we now love the exterior of our home. The little design touches had a big impact. The craftsmanship of the project was top notch. Wes led the charge here and every one of their employees and contractors were extremely skilled and professional. Everything was done in a timely manner and looks perfect. It was also very evident to us that they hire based on both skill and character. Everyone was extremely nice and felt like a friend. With young kids it was so nice to feel comfortable with the contractors who were in and out of our home. Communication was excellent, which was also very important to us. We always knew what was happening and Wes and Jim were always available to answer any questions we had. Everything was clear and there were no big surprises- aside from the inevitable things that arise with a major project like this. Even then, Wes and Jim were always conscientious of our budget and worked with us to come up with various solutions. I also liked how Wes on the ground here and was flexible with our project. If I had an idea or slightly different direction I wanted to head in, he would brainstorm with me on realistic options. It is clear that Wes and Jim are equally invested in beautifully finished projects AND happy clients. We would without a doubt recommend this company! We had the best experience and absolutely love our new home! Thank you Wes and Jim!"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

Building a tiny house is the least complicated way to build, especially if you’re tackling the project as a DIY. The smaller size means less complex plans, more straightforward utility installation, and fewer ways to make costly errors. Tiny homes still need to conform to building codes and often have other applicable regulations, so be sure to get the proper permits and confirm your build is by the book.

To qualify as a guest house, a structure needs to meet your local building code requirements. In some locations, a guest house must be a separate residence from the primary home. In other locations, you may be able to connect the two buildings and still call the second building a guest house. However, a structure doesn’t often need a minimum size to qualify as a guest house.

A construction lien results from unpaid services. For instance, if a homeowner hires a contractor to do a large renovation on their home and then fails to pay for the services and materials, the contractor can take out a lien on the property. This lien is a legal claim against the property for the amount of money owed. If the homeowner does not pay their debt, the lien may stay on the title until the homeowner tries to sell and cannot do so until the title is cleared.

Deciding whether to buy a prebuilt fireplace kit or build one from scratch comes down to aesthetics, available space, and budget. Many homeowners like the convenience and lower cost of prebuilt options—around $1,500—versus the involved planning and construction of a larger fireplace. Another bonus: you can usually move prebuilt units. Custom projects are more common when homeowners have access to a larger budget and more area in the yard to place the fireplace.

There are several ways to save money and keep costs down when building an outdoor kitchen. Building on an existing patio can reduce the cost of a new foundation, especially if it's close to the house. You can also save on utility line installation by opting out of a sink and using a built-in propane or charcoal grill. If you have the skills, tackling parts of the project yourself—like building or finishing cabinets, installing fixtures, and constructing seating—can lead to significant savings. Reusing appliances you already have is another great way to cut costs. Finally, consider starting small with just the essential components and adding more features over time as your budget allows.
