"Stephen provided online link to options for roofing, asked for actual samples which he dropped off for our review.  Glad I got the samples because the computer did not accurately present the shingle colors. Was originally ordering a new roof for $4,799 special but also wanted to investigate new soffets, gutters, and back door.  Asked Stephen to come out to provide an estimate.  He did and explained that our roof was a bit larger than the 2,000 square feet covered in the Big Deal and that the fascia would need to be replaced with the soffet.    We also discussed the back door and due to the lack of any protection from direct rain, he strongly recommended we go with a sliding door instead of the french door.  We agreed and he provided an estimate.  Work started around mid May and the roofing went very well although I noted the drip edge was not being installed and spoke with the lead contractor.  Later that day the drip edge was installed and the root looked excellent.
During the roofing repairs and trimwork a few minor issues occured.  A bathroom vent cover was damaged by a ladder which they replaced at no charge, one piece of fascia trim was missing, which they corrected, and something was dropped on my gas grill bending the side shelf somewhat.  That was able to be straightened out but Stephen was willing to pay for a replacement which I told him was not necessary.
The door installation was another matter.  The installer failed to arrive as scheduled, then left again to pickup the door and didn't return.  I had to call late in the evening to find that the door that had been ordered was damaged but the contractor did not call me to advise that the install would not occur that day.  The next attempted install was worthy of a tv comedy, the workers showed up without tools, borrowed my tools to do the install, failed to level the door, and it would not close correctly.  Over the next few days a couple more attempts were made to correct the door install during which time the screen door was destroyed and had to be replaced and the outside trim completely removed and replaced again.  Stephen made sure the work was done right, however for this single aspect of the job this took took long and required too much effort to get proper installation on my part.
I would not hesitate to hire Chevy Chase for roofing work again, however my experience with the door, despite Stephen's ensuring that all deficiencies were corrected does make me hesitant to hire them again for work other than roofing.  I've seen other reviews stating Chevy Chase Remodeling did excellent work on jobs other than roofing, so maybe this one task was an exception to their otherwise high quality service.

"Our technician was on time and sealed our storm door to prevent water from leaking in. He also fixed the lock and the screen door on our sliding glass doors making them finally functional again and taught us how to grease the sliding door so it runs smoother. Excellent work and completed in a timely fashion."

"This company is wonderful. The project manager, Jason, and his crew were amazing. They turned a tiny bathroom and tiny room into a large, gorgeous, elegant bathroom. I used this company for two other bathroom remodels. Be sure you get Jason if you want a professional and efficient team."

"This was our second job with AES (the first being a full kitchen remodel), so we knew how it would go - awesome! Everything with AES is first class. Our Sales Rep Jeff quickly scheduled our estimate, and communicated promptly throughout - including stopping by to inspect the work after complete. Jeff is extremely helpful, and just a real pleasure to work with. Our builders - Steve and son - were just master craftsmen. Prompt, friendly, polite, and attentive. Also very patient with my pickiness - he came back multiple times to address minor issues with caulk/aluminum expanding once it got warmer in the summer. And I'm happy to report that the job is now more than perfect. Our original builder poorly installed our threshold in 2001. After years of rainstorms, the wood was thoroughly rotted. In similar disrepair was our Lowes-installed storm door. AES replaced our door with a high-quality replacement, repaired and re-mediated the faulty threshold, and wrapped the entire project in aluminum to keep it extra dry. Now when it rains I can enjoy the coziness, vs. stressing over the water coming in. Thanks again for a stellar project!"

"Everything about Dimitri's company is the absolute best. Dimitri and his sons and employees are very knowledgeable, hard-working, respectful and they did a fabulous job with my bathroom. This bathroom had been previously gutted by someone else so everything in there had to be done. New plumbing and electrics had to be installed as well as new tiles on the floor and on the walls. They put in a new shower, toilet and vanity -and now I have the most gorgeous bathroom, I love it. The men always arrived when they said they would; they are very friendly and kind as well as being courteous. This is a family business and Dimitri and his sons all work together, to get the job done. These guys are truly professionals. Dimitri, his sons and family have a wide knowledge of renovations and a wide range of skills. As a result of their great work in my home, I also asked them to install two custom storm doors, back and front and now I am getting a quote for a new deck and covered porch. I trust Dimitri's company to do a great job no matter what it is - a complete renovation or a small job and as such I highly recommend the company. These guys are my heroes!!"

"I bought a home built before 1978 and found that there was some asbestos floor tile in the basement. I reached out to D&H Demolition and they immediately came out to take a look at the project and provided a free estimate. They were very helpful and answered all my questions which made me feel a lot safer about the situation. I hired them and they took care of the work the very next day! Overall I was very pleased with their price and quality of work. Highly recommend!"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

When comparing the costs of portable containers vs. storage units, the monthly rates are often higher for portable containers. However, you don’t have the hassle or potential extra cost of hiring a truck or movers to transport your items to a storage unit location. If you have to add these costs, a portable container can work out better value for shorter-term rentals.

The national average cost for a building permit is around $1,600, a figure that typically includes major renovations. Costs can vary significantly depending on the job. For instance, basic construction, plumbing, or minor electrical permits can cost between $10 and $150, while permits for building a new home can reach $2,000 or more. Overall, homeowners typically spend between $150 and $2,000 for one or more permits for a project. Keep in mind that fees may not be flat rates; they can also be calculated as a percentage of the project's cost or size.

A storm shelter's size depends on the number of people who will use it and the types of storms it provides protection from. Tornadoes typically only last a few minutes, so you don't need to spend very long in the shelter when one passes by. You'll want a tornado shelter that's big enough to provide 5 square feet of space per person.

Hurricanes usually last much longer than tornadoes, so you may find yourself in the shelter for hours, not minutes, if you’re facing one. If you're installing a hurricane shelter, you'll need at least 7 square feet per person.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone. One of the questions to ask a masonry contractor is if a similar aesthetic can be achieved with another material.
