"He and his crew did a wonderful job on my driveway, they widened the entrance some so now it will be easier to enter. The driveway was in terrible shape now it is something I don’t have to be ashamed of! Thank you Richie and crew."

"Driveway looks great now. Crew was able to come out quickly and got the job done in less than a day. Price wasn't the cheapest offer I received, but not the most expensive, either. In all, a fair value."

"Joe and the crew from E Stanley did a great job widening our driveway. The job consisted of three parts. First, dig under the existing driveway and remove the roots that were growing underneath. Second, dig a couple of feet on both sides of our existing driveway to widen it out. Finally, pour asphalt on top of the driveway to replace the old one. Joe came in at the best price and finish the entire job in a single day.."

"The crew arrived on time and had plenty of manpower for just one driveway. They removed our old, damaged driveway and leveled it back before paving the new driveway. Looks great now! I'm very pleased with their work."

"We were very pleased with Got Paving. Very competitive with the pricing. Excellent results. The driveway looks great! Aaron was attentive to our questions and included our concerns in this project. The project was started on the planned date and completed the same day. We made the right choice in selecting Got Paving and recommend them."

My neighbors and I were looking for a company to repave our driveways. HF. Asphalt had the best prices. We were each given a written estimate with a group discount. (500$ off each job)

Hugh was the salesperson and he organized the jobs. His crew was on time and worked in a professional manner. They did a great job on repaving the existing driveway. The extension they did on the end of the driveway was a good job. The side extension edge was covered with the sod they removed. The grass is all dead and it doesn’t look good. I’m going to have to get this area reseeded. (more work and expense) Also, the driveway extension is lower than the rest of the driveway. Hugh told me that the land was clay and required more fill to be brought in. This was not an extra charge so even though the job cost him more, he kept to the agreed on contract. (a plus) In order to level the entire driveway so the parking pad is even with the driveway, I will have to wait for everything to settle. I anticipate cracking between the old driveway and the extension will occur because it is not level.

Hugh said he wouldn’t be able to work on the extension until next summer after it settled and because of the cost of bringing in all of the equipment again.

I do recommend H.F. Asphalt to repave your existing driveway, but I’m not sure I would recommend any changes or additions to what’s already there.

What I really liked & respected with the fact that the owner - Richard, kept his word.  I called (3) other companies and didn't so much as receive a return call.  I called Capital Paving & Richard returned my call the next day (Saturday).  He then offered to travel from Silver Spring to New Market to offer me an estimate - on a Saturday afternoon.  He said he'd arrive in an hour & he did just that.

After receiving the estimate, we agreed to move forward with the work.  Richard called me (2) days later to schedule the work for Tuesday.  He & his crew arrived as promised & completed the entire job that day.

Richard & his crew worked extremely hard despite a heat index of 98 degrees.  They finished the job promptly & added years of service life to the driveway.  It looks great & the repaired portion is excellent.

I definitely recommend Richard & Capital Paving for anyone looking to improve the service life of their driveway.

Thanks very much.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.

Yes, recycled asphalt driveway costs can be substantially lower than new asphalt. With new asphalt costing between $90 and $190 per ton, this option can cost as much as 10 times more than laying down asphalt millings.

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.
