"I used Regal Duct Cleaning today. Our home is 60+ years old. We have only lived in it for 20 months and there was more dust, dirt and webs than I had ever imagined. Julius and his crew arrived at the scheduled time. He was extremely professional. We went from room to room looking at every every vent, cold air return. "This company came highly recommended, as many of today's technicians cannot service traditional "steam" boiler systems. Ever since last year's "furnace emergency", this "Old House" here found "its rescue match" with Pohlman Plumbing & CJ, a highly skilled specialist, who tweaked the boiler back to "steam". Explaining why my Amish-built "Oldie-Goldie" was here to last, CJ enjoyed "challenges" & was not trying to "up-sell". Most units are designed only to cool the house down to 20 degrees less than the temperature outside. This means that if it’s 99 degrees Fahrenheit out and you’re trying to cool your home down to 65 degrees, you’ll notice your AC is struggling. 

Lower the blinds on all your windows, turn on your ceiling fans, and keep the thermostat at a consistent temperature to help your AC do its job. Investing in an HVAC maintenance plan also helps because pros will come out to inspect and tune up your unit regularly, keeping it in optimal working condition.

As a general rule, you should have your HVAC system professionally serviced at least once a year, though it's best to follow the manufacturer's specific recommendations. Many experts suggest twice-yearly maintenance: once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system. This is especially recommended for older units, systems with recurring issues, or heat pumps that provide both heating and cooling. Regular service, which can cost between $100 and $550, keeps the system running efficiently, helps prevent costly future repairs, and saves money on utility bills.

This depends on the extent of the freezing. Some ACs only need an hour or two to thaw out, but others may need a full day to completely unfreeze.
