"Tony Damore truly represents the best in business when it comes to home improvement . His engaging style and matter-of-fact presentation, combined with his competitive pricing strategy makes him one of the best vendors I ve met in a while. He made our decision to buy from American Awnings quite easy as he gave us a lot of good background materials, a justification for why certain options would work better for us, and then he proceeded to let me know what to look for when talking to competitors. From start to finish, I was happy with the work done and the responsiveness from Tony to ensure that this project was completed on time and on budget. Tony s integrity, honesty and professionalism make him the vendor you ll always remember. For the best value when it comes to awnings, you can start and end your process with American Awnings! Can t say enough good things about this company!"

"Communication with Jim prior to the appointment was easy and efficient. Jim was responsive and provided details so we could coordinate materials and logistics prior to the appointment. Jim and Jose arrived prompty on time. They worked efficiently and effectively, performing outstanding work on all of my requests. I had no concern with Jim and Jose working throughout my home without my supervision. The drywall repair that Jose did was amazing. Jim installed security bars on a window and installed a flag pole holder and mailbox on the front of the house. The installations are very secure, placed appropriately and look good.

Jim's price was very reasonable. For this service call, I used the Angie's List deal previously offered ($135 for 4 hours of handyman service). With Jim and Jose working concurrently, they aimed to finish within 2 hours. They used an extra half hour to wrap up, but Jim was not going to charge me. I insisted on paying for the extra time, especially since they worked so fast and so well (or he could have just considered it a bonus on top of the tip). I also appreciated Jim's $10 materials fee which I consider to be very reasonable. This saved me from having to go to Home Depot to purchase all the materials myself...materials that would have cost much more than $10.

Overall, I am very pleased with Jim and Jose's completed work, customer service and rates. I definitely plan to use them again in the future."

"It was good. I enjoyed their service. I thought the job was well done and professionally done. I liked the fact that they stayed in contact with me and made sure everything was going as planned. There was also follow up visit to make sure the door was properly installed."

"The gentleman was very nice, on time and completed the requested work.  I found the scheduling to be a bit odd.  It is all handled online you enter your preferred date and time and what you need done.  The person who came indicated they generally do contracting work, but was very willing to do whatever I needed.  He worked steadily and did a really nice job. So they don't match the persons skill to the job. As their website indicates it is your responsibility to provide any tools or equipment they need .

"We were very pleased with both the service and quality of the product. They did a very nice job of installing and the product is great. The people were really nice and very cooperative. Actually they came back today to work on we actually had a door put in as well and it needed little bit of adjustment so they came back and adjusted it for us. They stand behind their products very well. I would absolutely use them in the future."

"This is my second kitchen with Dave Bennington and if I need a third, he will be my first choice. The crew always cleaned up every day before they left and little things were frequently fixed before we even had a chance to mention them. I especially want to give kudos to the electrician. His work was very neat, wires were run neat and cleanly. The tile guy was also amazing -- beautiful job arranging the backsplash tiles and cutting everything so neatly around the corners. The floor subcontractor could have been better; they didn't order enough floor tile and had to wait for the reorder to finish. The finishing crew was not as good as the original crew. I know these are not Dave's hand-picked crew, but I would use a different floor vendor the next time."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:

  • Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire

  • Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning

  • Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings

  • Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust

  • Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option

  • Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage

On average, awning costs range from $1,400 to $4,400. The low end of the cost range can be around $100 up to $7,500 on the high end. Cost factors include the type of awning, size, and location. Portable awnings are the most affordable and DIY-friendly to install, costing $100 to $400. Larger, motorized awnings tend to be more solidly built, ranging in price from $2,000 to $3,500.

Regularly clean with mild detergent and water, and inspect for rust or damage.

Metal awnings last much longer than fabric thanks to their durability and resistance to fading, sun damage, and damage from the outside elements. They also need less maintenance than fabric options. Both items add curb appeal to your home, but you shouldn't expect either type of awning to add property value to your home.

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.
