"I must admit, I had Unicorp replace all of the windows in our home with new vinyl energy efficient windows 10 or more years ago. Their installers were excellent. The quality of their windows were excellent. The proof in the pudding is that after 8 years not one of my windows has an air leak. Not one has leaked water. Not one window has had the vinyl or track break. In short, nothing has happened. Now that's a quality window! We also purchased a custom sliding glass door (in the kitchen to the deck) from Unicorp that to this day I believe is the best door in my entire home. That door is opened and closed constantly to let the cats in and out. If you own cats, you will understand how often that door is opened and closed on a daily basis. We have not had a single hiccup ever with that door. And in the winter, I sit right behind the door and no matter how cold or windy it is, I never feel a thing at the kitchen table. Because Unicorp did such a great job in replacing the windows in our home, my wife insisted that we use Unicorp to replace the roof last week. We had old metal frame windows along with storm windows on the outside, so the job took a bit longer, but it was well worth it. We replaced it with their Lotus windows by Soft-Lite. "I had two old sliding glass doors where the wood around the glass was rotting. The needed to be replaced. I went to the Germantown Home Show and got three companies to come out and do an estimate. Presidential was easily the best choice of the three. The doors got ordered and a month or so later they arrived and were installed the next day. The crew from Presidential was professional and courteous. The door installation went quick and they cleaned up like they weren't even there. I am very pleased with my new doors."

However, they replaced the old metal window frames with wood frames and I have 2 issues: I told the sales rep I wanted 6" sills as in the old frames, they put in 2" sills, so I have ~20 plants to find new real estate for; the frames are primed but not painted, so now I have another major project to do. This was not explained to me, I presumed they came factory-painted. Better communication with the client is needed."

"Thomas and Antonio of JW Home Improvement did a wonderful job painting and making minor drywall repairs. Their lines were straight, they worked with us to finalize color selection, and adjusted to our indecisiveness."

"Very disappointed! In mid- August we contracted with this firm to replace four large custom size windows- 2 triangles, and 2 trapezoids. They estimated completion in 4-6 weeks. It actually took over 13 weeks with several “tries”. Furthermore, this project ended on a sour note. Just a few days after final installation, I noticed the caulking was already bubbling - dozens of bubbles ¼ - to ½ inch in size. When the owner emailed me asking for referrals, I responded saying that we needed a follow up visit to fix the caulk. That was almost 2 weeks ago and I have not received a reply. The contract required 100% payment on the completion date. As the consumer, that left us helpless when this problem arose just days after 'completion'. In the future, with any home improvement, I will require a 5% hold back for 2-4 weeks in case problems arise. Is the job complete? Not in my mind as the caulk issue has not been fixed. It seems that I will need to handle this myself. The caulk looks awful! Was it a disaster? No but it did not go very well. Needless to say, with all the home improvement contractors in Northern Virginia, I will NOT use this firm again. I will describe this project from three angles. Client interaction: C- The sales rep did not care about the project. We had multiple cases where the glass arrived damaged or was the wrong size. After the first problem, I called the sales rep and he was of no help and never called again to check up. Do not expect this person to be of any help. I then focused on working with the owner and project coordinator. They do not communicate well or frequently. I always felt in the dark. And their response to issues is extremely slow. The attitude seems to be "it is what it is and things will happen when they happen". At one point the owner told me “sometimes things have to get worse before they get better”. Workmanship: B Overall the workers were the best part of the experience. They definitely knew their jobs and worked carefully (see below), skillfully, and quickly. They protected the work area and cleaned up well. They seemed to have adequate tools and skill. I believe the caulk bubbling was due to weather conditions (humidity at end of day, etc.). Hard to say this is exactly their fault. They did one thing wrong from my point of view. Our home exterior is cedar siding. One of the cedar jambs was installed with the rough side showing instead of the smooth side. All the others are smooth side out. Not a big issue but enough to keep them from an "A " rating. Safety: C The windows are fairly high up (10-18 feet) and we noted on the contract the need for special scaffolding. For the first installation attempt, the workers did not bring scaffolding and tried to do the job with a couple of 6 foot step ladders and one extension ladder. It was so dangerous we took pictures and emailed them to the owner. We seriously thought about asking them to stop the project. These windows weigh hundreds of pounds and standing on the very top of a step ladder to handle them is extremely risky. But it turned out they only had one good window to install that day. Two others were the wrong size and a third one was damaged. For the final installation, they came with proper scaffolding. This employer not only put his workers at risk, but put us at risk as well. We could have been held responsible had there been an accident on our property. Job safety was clearly not a priority."

"There was no "trail" of damage from the foundation to my upstairs bathroom, so I was not completely sold on the foundation being the problem. I ended up getting two other opinions from different companies and they said that I didn't have any real problems with my foundation. They discovered what they say is a compromised wooden I-beam on my upstairs floor and repairs are continuing on this area to sure-up the bathroom issues before I repair the cracks and broken glass. I also found that using a laser leveler to measure foundation problems was not acurate as there was no baseline measurement for which to compare any descrepancies. The laser leveler was simply measured against the molded-in brick pattern on my foundation walls. There is nothing to say that the molded-in pattern is prefectly level to begin with and can be used to make acurate measurements from to determine foundation sinking. I came out of the experience unsure of the truth and wonder if JES would recommend the pier system to EVERY customer, as there probably is sinking in many foundations in my area, just not sinking that is so bad it would require an expensive pier system in order to stabilize. I decided not to use JES' services. I would suggest always getting a second and probably a third opinion on anything having to do with foundation repairs as an ENORMOUS amount of money is at stake in making the repairs."
