"Excellent work. The crew arrived on time and first took down a dead tree near our driveway and house. One worker climbed the tree and carefully took off branches and then dropped the tree into the woods. Then they went to work on another tree that had branches reaching out toward our house. All taken down safely and efficiently and they cleaned up when they were done. I'd definitely hire them again."

"They did a fantastic job elevating and trimming 2 large trees and removing 2 other trees that were dying (including grinding the stump). They also trimmed the branches behind my house so that the grass in my back yard can start growing again. I was charged a fair price in comparison to other companies I found outside of Angis list. They were professional, punctual, friendly, cleaned up afterwards and the yard looks so much better due to their work. I am grateful!"

"Very friendly estimator, listened to what I wanted done and explained about their insurances and worker's comp payments. Treescape was the first and only company to respond to my HomeAdvisor/Angi inquiry which surprised me. Their price seemed fair to me (and I always underestimate what projects will cost). The work crew arrived on time even though it was a hellishly hot day. Very carefully took down one tree which was between my deck and fence and trimmed back another one about 50%. Excellent clean up, very satisfied and would definitely hire them again. My neighbor had them come out a week later to take down a tree for him."

"JMC Tree Service did a thorough, professional job taking down a challenging tree. Communication was excellent, crew worked as a tight team; this was a very large oak, it had a trunk of over 54" in diameter and overhung both my neighbors and my house, along with the homes power lines - truly a lot of challenges. The price included taking the tree down, hauling the trunk, cutting the branches to length that would fit in my free standing fireplace, and grinding the stump - all for significantly less than other estimates received - more in line with the cost I was expecting. Would definitely recommend and use in the future."

"I loved this company because they just *handled* it with minimal instruction and direction. I could not be more pleased. I hope to use them again when I want to redo the landscaping in the spring."

"Met a arborist who was working down the street his name was Mark Sullivan. I had a few quest for him regarding my property, I made it clear that I didn't have money at ko6butvrealky needed an experts opinon. Mark took the time and walked me thru several options. He could have just blown me off but He cared and took time to help. Because of his effort and level of dedication I am making plans financially to hire him this spring to help us. Sometimes price isn't dverything"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s okay to trim low branches on a tree, also known as limbing up or raising the crown. Essentially, you’ll trim the lower third of the tree (trunk) and leave the upper two-thirds of the tree (crown). Arborists recommend trimming 20% of a tree’s leaves per season for two to three seasons. Trimming low branches allows light to flow through the tree, increasing circulation and making the tree stronger and healthier.

A tree growing close to a house can pose several risks, but removal isn't always the only or best solution. Potential problems include roots growing into the foundation and causing structural cracks, branches damaging the roof or promoting moss growth, and debris clogging gutters, which can lead to water damage. Trees can also provide access for pests and encourage mold. However, a small, healthy tree may not be a problem, and for larger, established trees, strategic trimming can be a cheaper and more beneficial alternative to removal. It is generally recommended to take action for trees within 10 to 20 feet of your home, especially if they are unhealthy or encroaching. Your best bet is to consult a professional arborist who can assess the specific situation and provide expert advice.

Hiring an arborist or tree surgeon is usually more expensive than a standard tree company, but it is often worth the investment. Arborists have education and certifications that standard companies typically lack, leading to a more professional, expert-level service. Their expertise is particularly valuable for diseased or infested trees, as they can ensure safer removal and help prevent the issue from spreading. Additionally, arborists may be necessary for work near power lines, as uncertified companies are often not permitted to service these trees. If your goal is to preserve the health of your trees, an arborist is the best choice. Their services, such as stump grinding, are also performed with greater expertise to ensure a safe depth that won't cause your lawn to collapse over time.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

Late winter is ideal, but if you’re pruning apple trees in the spring, prune them as early as possible in the season. You want to ensure your tree is just creeping out of dormancy and hasn’t started pushing out new growth. If you prune your tree too late into spring, you generally won’t see results until the following year.

That said, there’s no pruning season for unhealthy growth. Remove dead, dying, or diseased branches as soon as you notice them, regardless of the time of year.
