"This company actually listened to what I wanted. We had a 40 year-old upper and lower outside deck that structurally was sound. If I were to replace these decks as suggested by several companies, my guess is it would have cost $35,000. This company assessed my decks from a structural standpoint and determined that they could rehab the deck with long lasting materials and my deck would be something I would be proud of. I am and they did the work in a week and a half at about one third of the cost of building a new deck. I highly recommend them."

"AHI renovated our master bathroom and bedroom suite. Our bathroom is now stunningly spectacular. The bedroom like new. This family run business is very friendly, courteous, professional, and skilled in many crafts that include: drywall, frame reconstruction, tiling, cabinet installation, plumbing, vaulted ceiling repair, electrical and much more. Irshad and Nanda helped us with design options as well as recommendations for tile, shower door enclosure, cabinetsâ all at a great value and quality. Irshad's son, Billy, managed the on-site work with assistance from his brother Matt and Raoul to form a truly amazing team. Billyâ s expertise and vision made a huge difference in the project. End of each day, they cleaned up after themselves and were true to their word on prompt completion. Any minor extras after finishing, they were right back to take care of it. We definitely will use them again and highly recommend them to others."

"The project went very smoothly. Ferney communicated very well about the timing. The final cost was very close to the estimate. They used high quality materials, took their time, and did the work with care. They did detailed touches like caulking seams, repairing window frames. And the paint job was excellent. It is nice to deal with someone who plays things straight with honesty and integrity. I will definitely reach out to them again."

"Kurt was easy to reach via email or telephone. Apprised us of his approach to stripping our deck of its horrible paint coating and was upfront of the general cost during his first visit. He did need to be reminded to provide a specific contract upfront. Otherwise, deck restoration work progressed quickly once weather conditions permitted start and Kurt finished the large project within a few days."

"Bill did an excellent job. Will definitely hire Bill again. We had 4 different projects that we needed help with an Bill did them all and did them well. Bill helped us with kitchen counter caulking, needed carpentry to replace rotting wood around the front door, cleaning out and reworking the dryer vent piping plus repaired the back fence gate that was a problem getting stuck for years. Bill was a pleasure to work with and even scheduled the project to suite our availability. As I said we will definitely hire bill again."

"I hired Elegant Homes to fix the outside trim of my house as well as work on my deck and fix a floor board in my living room. This was A LOT of work. They did it professionally, and they did it superbly. :-) They replaced 33 boards with vinyl, fixed the floor board and practically rebuilt my deck. It was sinking, and the bolts to the house were corroded. They replaced the support beams, and the bolts as well as brought the railing up to code. Not only do I highly recommend them, but I will hire them again for more work that needs to be done."

"Alex gave a thorough and helpful estimate for refinishing and painting our very old wooden front porch. He used top quality paint and materials, took his time preparing the older surfaces for repainting and kept to the schedule. We plan to have him back for other work to be done."

Customers say: Quality work

"Wilson is a skilled craftsman who has rescued so many of my fine antique pieces over the last 15 years. He is extremely talented and very easy to work with. I have given him broken, stained, desiccated and otherwise damaged wooden items that he has restored to their original beauty. I find his prices quite moderate and his work exceptional."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

Homeowners can increase the usefulness of their garage space in other ways, and one option is to extend the length of the garage by making it deeper. The process is similar to traditional garage extensions, but the end product is a garage with a different layout rather than additional parking spaces.

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.
