"We needed our boiler replaced and had multiple companies come and look at the job. We ended up selecting Sila as we read good reviews on the company. Sila surpassed our expectations. The tech who performed the install (Gage) was on time, communicated the entire process to us from start to finish and did a tremendous job. He also made sure to clean up afterwards and was very professional. We would absolutely hire Sila again!"

"JT called and asked if he could come earlier than expected, which was perfect for me. He was extremely thorough reviewing our electrical system and the finished product of the work he did (installing a new 220v line for an outdoor hot tub) was clean and efficient. He was a joy to meet and speak to, incredibly nice guy. Price was reasonable for the work. I would 100% recommend JT and Cotti-Johnson again!"

"The thermocouple on my gas-fired boiler needed to be replaced, and the pilot needed to be cleaned. The tech was helpful and forthcoming with information. Took about an hour, as my boiler does not have easy access. Would hire again!"

"Ed and his crew were wonderful. They installed a new boiler for us. The work is outstanding. The new system looks beautiful. They were very professional and respectful. They provided a proposal explaining everything in detail in advance. The price was very reasonable. I strongly recommend them and would definitely hire them again for my future heating projects."

"I just had Blue Bear Plumbing replace my 33-year-old boiler. They were AMAZING from the second I called call in!!! Angi was super friendly and helpful and got me scheduled same day. Which was awesome because I had no heat, and more importantly no hot water!!!!! Kyle a project manager was out that afternoon to take a look at my boiler and help me decide on the perfect replacement for me, which ended up being a Bosch “combo” boiler. He was patient, knowledgeable, and made the whole process easy to understand. He even found that my boiler was way too small for my house, which is why my living room never got up to temperature!!! It even looks so cool in my basement, especially compared to that big old metal box that used to be down there, I actually love it! I already recommend Blue Bear Plumbing to my neighbor for their AC project. They made my whole experience the best from start to finish!!!!"

"The removal and installation went very well. Darren, our contact, evaluated our heating requirements and specified a state of the art high efficient system as we requested. Darren and Atlantic Heating & A/C also accommodated our request to bring the system on line before the upcoming cold weather. They successfully completed the work by mid October. The removal of the old equipment and the installation of the new system went smoothy with minimum impact on our home. The crew was highly skilled and very professional. We were also grateful that Atlantic Heating prepared the application for a rebate from the gas company. We received the rebate within a couple weeks of completion of the work. In addition, Darren followed up with a recent visit to provide us with advice and instruction on the operation of the equipment. Based on our experience, I highly recommend Atlantic Heating and A/C."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Unless they are connected to the same system, boilers and water heaters will both need their own expansion tanks. The only case they wouldn’t have separate expansion tanks is if the boiler is pulling double duty and managing a heating system while also supplying hot water for a home. In which case, you may not need a hot water heater.

One of the easiest ways to determine which type of furnace will work best for your home is to contact a professional in your area. Many HVAC companies offer free consultations to help potential customers determine if they need a new system and which type would work best for their home and the community’s climate.

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.

The most important sign of a boiler problem is something happening unexpectedly, which is why regular boiler maintenance is important. Unexpected problems can include strange smells, new leaks, and unexpected noises that your boiler wasn’t making before. Additionally, if a boiler keeps shutting off or can’t maintain a specific temperature range, it’s time to call in an expert.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.
