Customers say: Super punctual

"The team from McLaughlin Weatherization, who completed the work from my Mass Save Program energy audit to install insulation in my attic was AWESOME! They were a team of 3, who ensured the job got done efficiently and well. Professional, courteous and personable! I was very pleased with how they entered my home, treated my home and me while in it and when they left they even brushed up the very last of any dirt they might have brought in. I cannot rave enough about how great the experience was because I was able to work downstairs and stay out of their way but they definitely went above and beyond in my opinion! I didn't know the front door would get a package of weather stripping too. So while that was nice, the guy in charge of the team of 3 not only removed the old to install the new, the front door closes properly now! I cannot thank you enough for this small act of kindness (even if it was fixed with the new trim) because I had been so worried about my kitties getting out one day because the latch would not catch to keep the door closed. Also, the senior member leading the team demonstrated his years of experience and knowledge and explained everything to me and answered all my questions. I highly recommend this company as a partner for Mass Save and I would personally pay them for any future work needed if not covered by Mass Save."

"Hugh's Energy is a quality company and it starts at the top with owner-President, Tom Dromgoole. Tom made a site visit to my home to discuss details of the insulation including the process, timing, and outcomes; he answered all of my questions. He also came the day of the insulation to check on how things were going. His crew, led by Parris, was excellent - knowledgeable, efficient and clean. If you are considering insulating your home, just call this company and save yourself time."

"I was plagued with recurring ice dams in a few areas of my roof. After investigation, it was discovered that the insulation in a few visible areas was sub-par. Roland came in and quickly spotted the problem areas. He assured me that the could fix these problems immediately. He used a combination of rearranging existing batts, blown-in fiberglass and spray foam to seal the attic space, over the course of two visits. He's extremely personable and always called me back or answered the phone right away."

"I didn't end up insulating my home with Coleman or any other company (in the end I didn't need to) but am leaving a review about their responsiveness and professionalism, which was superb."

"This is the second time I have used MA Design and Construction for a project in my house. Both times were great. For the most recent job, they framed up a partially finished basement, added carpet, leveled the ceiling, added a door and electrical outlets and insulated and painted the walls. The finished product looked great. I have found them super easy to work with - they are always very responsive to any questions that I have and they are great about communicating. I plan to have them do additional work for us in the future."

"Vendor was able to complete and interior framing project in record time and was able to do a patch work job on an area of my roof that had been damage by a falling tree. This was completed in a 24 hour period. While on site, I requested advice on future siding work that needs to be done later this Spring. Vendor was very helpful and I will be using them to do the work required."

"Carlo and his team built a retaining wall for us, to create a new parking area for our camper van, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. It was a tricky project as it was built on a steep bank. Not only did they build a beautiful looking wall, their professionalism, and attention to detail were first class. Carlo was careful to update us throughout the project and explain exactly what they were doing and why. We will definitely be hiring CF Masonry again."

"From our initial meeting with the salesperson about siding project the was very thorough and explained all of our options. The whole Pro Home Services crew was very professional and helpful whenever we had any questions. We're very happy with the way that our home looks from before, we have received many compliments from our neighbors and friends. We can not  thank Pro Home Services enough for the great work that they accomplished, work was completed in the amount of time that was said in a neatly manner.   Words can not express our gratitude to Pro Home Services for the diligence of the workers."

This is probably not your roof:
But, if your roof has damaged flashing, missing shingles, curling, blistering, buckling, rotting and algae growth (which appears as dark or greenish stains), you probably need a new roof.
If you’re roofer doesn’t talk about these, you’re talking to the wrong guy:

"Our house was the neighborhood eyesore! The paint was chipping, the gutters were falling off, and there was wood rot in many spots. After calling Jeffrey, he promptly came over and gave us a quote, which included stripping the old clapboards, new siding, insulation, gutters, shutters, and electrical work to replace all outside lighting. He definitely knew what to do and knows his craft. His crew arrived punctually every morning for 2 weeks. They were extremely polite, efficient and friendly. It was a pleasure watching them work. In addition to installing the siding, they replaced all the rotted fascia boards, tore down and rebuilt a rotted ?dog house? bulkhead, and installed the new lighting fixtures. When we discovered the sill under the garage was totally rotted, Jeffrey addressed it in a cost efficient manner. Over the course of a fortnight, our house was transformed into a beautifully sided colonial. The neighbors have been so impressed, some of them stood outside to watch. We appreciate Jeffrey?s superb customer service, his caring for our house, and his dedication to his craft. We look forward to hiring him again for additional work in the future.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

While fiberglass is dangerous to work with, it’s a perfectly safe material once it’s installed. If you’re tackling the installation yourself, make sure you take the proper safety precautions and wear the right gear to avoid skin and eye irritation and lung complications. Working with a professional insulation company can mitigate these risks.

Insulating ducts prevent or significantly reduce condensation by reducing temperature differences between the duct surface and surrounding air. Proper insulation also minimizes sweating, improves energy efficiency, and prevents moisture damage. However, if humidity levels are unusually high or there are air leaks, additional measures like sealing ducts and using a dehumidifier may be needed.

At a minimum, blown-in insulation lasts 20 to 30 years. Cellulose and sheep’s wool come from natural materials, so they likely max out at around 30 years. Fiberglass and rockwool feature artificial materials that boast lengthy lifespans, up to 50 years, or even longer in some cases. As always, this timeline assumes you don’t run into any issues, such as flooding or mold, that shorten the lifespan.

Each of the three types of wool insulation has particular disadvantages. While their R-value is higher, they all cost more than fiberglass versions. Installing mineral wool and sheep wool requires protective gear. Because of its vulnerability to insects, chemicals are used in its production. Hemp wool is more costly to install than other types because additional tools and labor are involved.

The best way to reduce heat upstairs is to release it by opening a window. Hot air rises, and if you can create some airflow by opening a window upstairs and also one on a lower level, the hot air should be pushed out of the home. Remember that fans pointing out the window do a much better job of circulating air than fans pointing into the home.
