"We have had VMA do a couple of big projects done for us. This last project involved replacing the underground electrical line from the box near the sidewalk to the house. VMA coordinated everything, Eversource disconnect and reconnect, town inspection, excavation, laying of conduit containing the new line, and installation of the new meter. They also installed an additional conduit for a future fiber optic cable. I have recommended VMA to others because of the excellent communication, work ethic, efficiency, good value for the money, courtesy, and quality of work. They solved our difficult electrical problem in a very non-stressful way."

Customers say: Quality work

"I had an excellent experience with Tom. He called back with in minutes of my requesting a quote for the job. We made arrangements to meet 2 days later so he could look at what the job entails. He showed up on time discussed exactly what I needed and quoted a very reasonable price. The job was wiring power outlet and cable pass through for a new TV. TV was actually delivered a week earlier then originally planned and Tom was willing to come out the day before delivery so Tv could be installed day of delivery. The work was neat and professional done and I am very happy with the final result. I highly recommend Tom for all your electrical needs, if I could have given him 6 stars I would have."

"Mike from A&B electric did an excellent job on what I consider a complicated project. The project required conversion to 220V, sub-panel installation, external receptacle, switch, and device wiring; I'm delighted with his attention to detail, customer service, and overall execution."

"Joe was amazing. His assessment was to the point. I am not a person who knows electrical stuff. Joe explained everything how he was going to get the project done, very detailed. His time estimate was perfect. He quoted the right amount. He is very responsive to calls and texts. I highly recommend Joe for electrical projects. "Going above and beyond" is something I saw in his work ethic, which is very important. For all my future electrical projects, it is definitely Joe."

"Joe did a fantastic job installing our new exterior sconces. Fox several recessed lights in our kitchen and updated them. He installed a wireless three way switch in our kitchen that none of the contractors would touch. He very knowledgeable and worked with us to keep the cost manageable. I highly recommend him for any electrical project"

"Electrical baseboard was not working in living room or kitchen. Mark from Durocher Electric was able to confirm that the units were receiving electric current, and were then working properly. Also a second project checking a ceiling light fan combo where the light was not working. Mark determined that a part in the light fixture was burned out. A new fan/light fixture was put in by Mark. Excellent job on the two projects."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A GFCI outlet is easy to identify. It features two buttons on the face that read “TEST” and “RESET.” Sometimes, the “RESET” button is red. These are positioned in the center of the two three-prong plug-in slots you see on a regular outlet. Some also feature a green light to indicate when the outlet is working, changing to red when there is a problem.

It’s recommended that you test GFCI outlets monthly with the test and reset buttons. At minimum, you should test GFCI outlets when entering a new season, or every three months. These are important home safety features that you should ensure work properly.

A voltmeter measures the voltage of AC or DC electrical current. Unlike a multimeter, measuring voltage is a voltmeter’s only function. Voltage is the potential difference between two points within a circuit. Measuring voltage with a voltmeter can help identify wiring issues or determine whether a battery is dead.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.

If your fan is ceiling-mounted and will vent through the attic to the outside, you will need an electrician to handle the wiring, and if you need to install ductwork for the first time or replace existing ductwork, you will need an HVAC professional as well.
