Customers say: Quality work

"I had a bathroom remodeled. The project started as a disaster. I had fired 2 contractors, lost money and time and really did not know where else to turn to. I was suggested to try Angie list, and so I did. I got in contact with Mr. Mc Caffrey, I did not have much faith however he surpassed and exceeded all my expectations. He was on time and showed up for work each single day he promised he would. The price was competitive and the bathroom was done in 10 days. The job included a jet tub, installation, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and tile work. I am greatly appreciative and will recommend Mr. Mc Caffrey at any time."

"Dave, was professional and reliable. He did the job very well and returned when we had questions and resolved them. We upgraded our service from 100 to 200 amp electrical service. We also installed a charging port for our new electric car. We are very satisfied with the new service and charge station. I would highly recommend him to others."

"We have used Preston for multiple projects over the years. Early on we did some light renovations and upgrades, basic lighting, and some added plugs and switches. We then moved on to bigger projects and Preston stepped up to the plate. He has done the following projects for us. Full wiring of our duplex. Multiple panel service upgrades. Full panel and basement wiring, including can lighting, heating, and washer dryer system brought to code. All projects have been completed on time, to code, with a clean job site and no time wasted. We have also used him in a commercial capacity. Commercial lighting, and restroom upgrades."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The major difference between a GFCI breaker and an AFCI breaker is that a GFCI breaker protects against fatal shocks while an AFCI breaker prevent electrical fires. A GFCI breaker senses when the electrical current to ground is overloaded and trips to prevent major accidents or injuries. AFCI breakers trip when it detects dangerous electrical arcing.

While it’s not mandatory unless you’re purchasing a home, it is important to schedule regular home electrical inspections for safety and to maintain your house’s value. Inspections can reduce fire risk and can help save money on insurance premiums. They can also catch problems before they start, saving money on repairs down the line.

In addition to grounding your outlets, you may want to hire an electrician for the following:

These additional electrical services ensure that your home’s electrical system is in working order and will accommodate your ground outlets.

Wiring a light switch wrong can cause a fire if the incorrect wiring causes arcing, meaning the current jumps uncontrolled from one conductor to another. Loose wires or worn wires that are not repaired or replaced can cause arcing. If you’re not 100% sure you can do the job safely, don’t attempt to wire a light switch on your own.

It’s important to ask an electrician a few questions before you commit to hiring them so you can make an informed decision as a consumer. If you’re getting estimates or considering hiring an electrician, ask them these questions:

  • Are you a full-time electrician?

  • Are you bonded, licensed, and insured?

  • What level of experience do you have as an electrician?

  • Can you please share three references?

  • Do you do residential or commercial electrical work?

  • What kinds of electrical work are you most familiar with?

  • Will any subcontractors be performing the work?

  • Are permits and inspections required?

  • Who is responsible for obtaining permits and inspections?

  • What is your schedule?

  • Do you offer a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Will you sign a do-not-exceed clause to keep the job within the budget?
