"It went well. They are being professional in their follow-up as they are trying to have us install an expensive basement drainage/pumping system. We haven't decided yet, as it will be part of our basement gut/rehab project."

"We had 4 basement waterproofing companies come into our home to do an assessment of our basement. We are updating our home and finishing our basement. Although we only had occasional and minor water leaks we wanted to protect our investment. Our time with Mike, Jason, and the rest of the team was professional and informative from the first moment. They were responsive with our estimate, fair with their pricing, and willing to answer our questions along the way. The crew arrived on time and ready to get the project started. We had a couple of large items that we needed help moving and they assisted so that we could keep the basement clean. The work that was performed was done so with care. The basement was kept as clean as possible, and our input was taken into consideration along the way. Hands down thankful for the experience and piece of mind that we now have."

"We hired Leal Restoration to clean up water damage on three floors of our house. They came early on a Saturday morning, worked all weekend and finished the job on Monday. This included drying out the area, removing debris, and replacing a ceiling. The work was done efficiently and carefully. Leal turned a disaster area into a clean and back to normal living space in 3 days. Amazing!"

"They did a fantastic job! We have had driving rain since the installation and our basement is bone dry. They came on time, were very polite and I'm very happy with the fast train system they installed."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.

If there is standing liquid on your concrete, remove it before attempting any of the above cleaning methods. For small amounts of water, use rags, a bucket, and a mop. For larger areas of liquid, lay down cat litter or baking soda to soak up the water first. If you have extremely large pools of water sitting on your concrete, break out the wet vac and get to work.

You can seal a concrete slab by cleaning the surface, filling in any cracks, etching the surface, applying a sealer, and letting it dry. Concrete slabs don't typically need sealing, but you can use a topical concrete sealer if you notice signs of water damage. If you haven't already fixed the cause of the leak, then you'll want to repair the plumbing before you seal a concrete slab.

Mold and other fungi love moisture, so the best way to prevent mold growth after water damage is to remove as much moisture as possible. First, find the source of the water or moisture, such as a leak or clogged gutters, and correct the problem. Next, remove standing water, vacuum up puddles with a shop vacuum, and run blower fans and dehumidifiers for 24 to 72 hours. Once you've removed all traces of moisture, disinfect the area using either vinegar or bleach to kill any remaining mold spores.

External pressure on the basement wall can cause it to bow inward. Soil, heavy with water saturation, is commonly the main culprit. The soil exerts immense pressure on the wall, causing it to fail, at least partially. This is known as hydrostatic pressure—these situations can occur after rainfall or simply due to regular groundwater presence and may be temporary or more permanent.
