"We were considering buying a new couch after our armless chair (part of a sectional) had some wear spots and small tears in the seating area. We decided to try reupholstery after speaking with Eddie and listening to his suggestions. He picked up the chair on Wednesday and had it back here on Friday. It looked brand new. This man is an Upholstery Genius. If you’re considering upholstering or reupholstering, speak with Eddie before you do anything else. In addition, his price is very reasonable and his work is excellent. We just saved over $4k over the price of a new couch. A huge bonus for us!"

"The first guy that came out to clean my carpet, sofas and mattress did not do a good job at all. He rushed and finished a 2 hr cleaning job in 1 hour. I was very dissatisfied. I called carpet cleaning experts to complain and without hesitation they said they will send another guy out to re clean. Doug came out to clean the following week and this time the job was done right, he was thorough and professional, he even took pictures of the noticeable spots that was still on my sofas and carpet before he cleaned. After he was done cleaning, I was very happy with how much cleaner and better my carpet and sofas looked and smelled the second time around, and the spots were gone or much less noticeable. I will call and request Doug again if I should need them in the future."

"Tighe came as a recommendation from our neighbors who said he did great work for them and this was the case for us as well! Tighe replaced a worn out storm door and exterior door. The work was done quickly and professionally! Highly recommend!"

Customers say: True professional

"From the first contact with Gary Locatelli Smith I knew I was in the hands of a professional with a long history of great customer service and experience in the trade. He answered my email and phone call within two days, and set up an appointment to come to my home within a week. I showed him the fabric I had purchased and wanted to use and after he gave me a quote on the cost for two sofa slipcovers I readily agreed and he started cutting and measuring the slipcovers on the spot. I provided the material so I only paid for labor. He did a wonderful job on the slipcovers, which fit to perfection. I originally wanted a certain style of slipcover, but he made other recommendations based on the material that I provided and I am so happy I agreed to it. In addition to the two slipcovers he also upholstered a bench using beautiful nail heads and reupholstered a day bed. I was satisfied with the time it took and would use him again anytime! P.S. Nine years ago I paid double for 2 sofa slipcovers using another service, which is why I didn't use them again. Locatelli Smith Interiors had my business as soon as I met Gary and he gave me the quote. He stuck to the quote and did a great job! He knows what he is doing! I couldn't be happier to have found a great upholsterer!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

In Boston, winter snow and icy conditions can slow down furniture pickup and delivery, while summer’s high humidity often extends drying times for adhesives and finishes, sometimes by several days. Spring and fall are ideal for upholstering projects due to moderate temperatures and lower moisture. Homes near the harbor or in older neighborhoods benefit from moisture-resistant fabrics and careful fabric selection to prevent mold or mildew issues.

Helpful?

Combining upholstering with other home upgrades in Boston, such as carpet replacement, window treatments, or furniture restoration, can streamline your project and reduce overall disruption. Many local professionals offer volume discounts or package deals, especially during spring or winter renovation periods. Coordinating multiple upgrades allows for a cohesive design, minimizes repeated moving of furniture, and helps maximize efficiency in Boston’s often compact living spaces.

Helpful?

Before starting an upholstering project in Boston, compare quotes from several local professionals and review recent customer feedback. Test fabric samples in your home’s lighting and measure all access points, including stairwells and doorways. Schedule work during spring or fall for optimal conditions, avoid major city events, and allow extra time for weather-related delays. Document your furniture’s condition and confirm all project details with your chosen upholsterer.

Helpful?

Boston homeowners often underestimate the impact of humidity on fabric selection, leading to premature wear or mold. Overlooking the amount of fabric needed for large Victorian furniture is common, as is failing to measure tight stairwells or doorways for delivery. Not researching local upholsterers, skipping written estimates, and ignoring seasonal delays can result in longer timelines and less satisfactory furniture restoration outcomes.

Helpful?

In Boston, upholstering chair cushions or small pieces typically takes about one week, while armchairs and loveseats require two to four weeks. Larger projects like full sofas or antique furniture restoration can take up to eight weeks. Seasonal factors—like winter storms or high demand in September—may extend timelines, especially in neighborhoods with limited workshop access or challenging delivery logistics.
