"I hired Welliz Contractors to prepare my rental property in Melrose after a tenant move-out. They handled painting, cleaning, and a variety of repairs throughout the unit. The work was completed professionally and on schedule, and the attention to detail was impressive. The apartment looked refreshed and move-in ready when they finished. Communication was excellent throughout the project, they were reliable, and the pricing was fair. As a property owner, it’s important to have contractors you can trust, and Welliz Contractors delivered quality work with no hassle. I would definitely hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for dependable painting, repair, and cleaning services."

"Claudio and his crew were very easy to work with - they arrived on time, did an excellent job laying out our tile and Claudio personally stands behind his company's work. If their attention to detail is always this good, I know we'll be hiring them again for additional house projects."

"Ari threw out two old doors, installed an interior door and a storm door (insulating the wall around the door to keep the cold out), repaired a leaking ceiling that was caused by a rotted gutter that he repaired and cleaned out the gutters around the whole house. He is one amazing professional contractor."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

For a ceramic tile service in Boston, choose porcelain tiles for their low water absorption, which resists freeze-thaw damage. Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar specifically rated for temperature fluctuations and a high-performance grout for moisture-prone areas like bathrooms. For underlayment, a cement backer board provides a stable, moisture-resistant foundation, ensuring your project withstands Massachusetts' demanding climate for years to come, preventing cracks and water damage.

Helpful?

Ceramic tile projects significantly improve comfort in a Massachusetts home, especially when paired with radiant floor heating for our cold winters. The non-porous surface resists moisture from humid summers and makes cleaning tracked-in snow and salt simple. As a durable, hypoallergenic surface, tile replaces allergen-trapping carpet, improving indoor air quality and adding a timeless, easy-to-maintain finish that complements the character of many older Boston-area homes.

Helpful?

In older Boston homes, the substantial weight of tile can strain original floor joists, often requiring a structural assessment before starting a ceramic tile service. Demolition may disturb fragile cast iron pipes, impacting your plumbing system. If you're adding radiant heating, your electrical panel might need an upgrade to handle the new load. In compact layouts, new tile work can even interfere with existing HVAC ductwork or radiator placement.

Helpful?

To make your Boston tile project safer, select tiles with a high coefficient of friction (COF) rating to prevent slips, especially in entryways. Use low-VOC adhesives and sealants to protect indoor air quality. For homes built before 1978, it is critical to follow the EPA's Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule to manage potential lead-based paint hazards, safeguarding children and pets from exposure during the project.

Helpful?

A common mistake in Boston is failing to properly prepare the subfloor, as older homes often have uneven surfaces that cause tiles to crack over time. Homeowners also choose adhesives not rated for MA's wide temperature swings, leading to bond failure. Ignoring lead-safe work practices in homes built before 1978, as outlined by the EPA, is another critical error that can create significant health hazards for your family.
