I Hired Bertie to replace a water damaged wall. He was very responsive. The job went very well. Bertie is knowledgeable about what needed to be done. He also did some unplanned masonry work that needed to be done and did a great job on all. His cost was very reasonable. I would definitely use him again.

Bertie came out to look at the gate on a Wednesday night. He pointed out that he could also replace some wooden pickets on the fence which I needed to have done but didn't think about asking him as getting the gate repaired was more important. He came out on Friday morning and repaired the gate and replaced pickets as well as secure a section of fencing. He did a great job. Bertie was very polite and punctual. He kept in contact with me the entire time. I would definitely hire Bertie again and I highly recommend him.

Bertie was responsive to our initial request for a quote. He came out, gave his honest opinion of the job, quoted a fair price, and was available within a week. He was on time for the job itself and did a great job giving us smooth walls and ceilings again. We wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

I hired Bertie to repair some ceilings in my kitchen, living room, and bathroom. He did a really nice job and left the house tidy when it was all said and done. He was responsive to my calls, and very friendly and professional. The work looks great and I've already recommended him to a friend. He is definitely a plaster guy I'd call in the future.

We hired Bertie Walsh to re-do our garage ceiling which had been incorrectly repaired by a different contractor (not a contractor found on Angie's List). Bertie was a godsend because after he removed the ceiling he pointed out to us that the previous contractor had failed to connect the blue board to the joist (not sure if that's the right word) and there also wasn't any strapping holding it to the subsurface, which would have caused it to eventually bow out. Bertie put a new section of ceiling up and finished it with plaster and did a remarkable job matching the existing ceiling.
Bertie is quiet and hard working. No fluff with this guy. He's an honest, no-nonsense guy who will give you a very reasonable quote, will show up when he says he will, and then quietly and diligently do the work. He cleaned up well after the work was completed. I found myself looking for other things that needed plastering or handiwork around the house just so we could hire him again. Yep, he is that good!

Berty did a fantastic job! Very knowledgeable, he advised us as to the best options for our project in our budget and we are glad we listened to him. Very professional! He arrived on time, completed the project on time as promised. Was understanding when we needed to change the date and was able to work around our schedule. Very neat, the kitchen was left clean, did a good job sealing off the room so other rooms would not be affected by dust. Pleasant to work with and a reasonable price for the quality of work. We will never go to another plasterer for our future renovation needs. The walls and ceiling look amazing! We had another contractor come in to look at another project and the first thing he said when he saw Berty's work was "Well you got someone who knew what they were doing!" My husband said he wishes he were around to see how he did it, the walls and ceiling were so uneven to start and when he was done everything was so even. They look beautiful now! He did an awesome job! Highly recommend! If you want a job well done, call Berty now!

From the initial phone call, returned the same afternoon when I had initially left him a message, Bertie was amazingly honest, professional and understanding. Towards the end of the SAME day that I called him, he came by to look the job over and then called me with an estimate the next day!
Bertie did not balk at the prospect of working on an old house and badly-damaged ceiling. In fact, even before getting the job, he explained things about the methods that had been used and what had happened over the years to create the conditions we had now. He was obviously incredibly knowledgeable, AND, not looking askance at the small but possibly frustrating job we needed.
We liked Bertie and accepted his offer almost immediately after getting it. It seemed fair and he said he could do it within the time frame we needed. A grand piano needed to be moved out of the room and stored, and we had to do the things needed in the room in a certain very specific order.
Today, the day of the work, Bertie arrived at 7:15 (he had said around 7:30) and very quietly and calmly covered all the surfaces, the entry way to the room, etc. He worked alone and I thought that was pretty impressive to be able to get those drywall boards in the right place and affixing them himself. It was obvious that he was an extremely skilled craftsman.
I had to go out for a while and returned home in the late afternoon to the job completely done. The skimcoat looked AMAZING, smooth and flawless. No one could have known what was there before! My husband, who has done much of the work on our house and has difficulty letting someone else do the work, was super-impressed by how wonderful it looked and how easeful it all seemed! Also, the room and surrounding area was left completely clean and dustfree.
Before Bertie left, he and my husband had a long talk about working on old houses and about all the obstacles you encounter. Bertie is passionate about what he does, very personable, but all business when he comes to doing the actual work.
I ended up walking around my house looking at other areas that need Bertie's magic touch, because it will now be possible to get my husband to agree that he doesn't have to do all the work himself -- that there is someone who will come into our old house and do a great job!!

Bertie was extremely responsive from the initial contact and through out the job. He came on Saturday morning to check out the job and give an estimate. He said he'd be there at 9, he was there at 8:55. We had to replace a bathroom ceiling fan, which caused damage to the old plaster/wire popcorn finish ceiling. It was a small job but he was fine with that. He was able to schedule the for Monday. He should up again early and set straight to work. He put down drop cloths in the bathroom, prepped the ceiling and started patching it up. He was professional, courteous, friendly and highly knowledgeable. We would highly recommend him and hope to use him again soon for another larger project.

The job went well, very brief and surprisingly inexpensive. (I understand everyone has to live, so I expected to pay for a livelihood, but I was delighted to have my wallet only lightly crimped.) Bertie Walsh arrived around the agreed time. I gave him the two grab bars the VA decided I needed in my bathing area, an old retired vet in a wheelchair, like me. I live alone, in a condo, so I needed a handyman to install them.
I'm glad I had a professional person install them because, even if I were fit, I surely would have botched the job. This place was cut up into condos in 1987. It used to be just a red brick factory-- originally constructed around the turn of the 20th century to work with Brockton by making those metal lacing eyelets for boots. They used metal--not plywood--when they cut the factory into apartments like mine (Bertie Walsh later explained to me). If I were doing the job myself I would have been expecting wooden studs behind the tile--which would have been full of exploratory holes when I got done.
So, I pointed to the bathroom, assured myself that Bertie Walsh had all he needed, and went to finish watching the program I had on, wondering what I had to offer Mr. Walsh when he broke for lunch soon. How pleased I was when that time arrived and he said the job was done and that I only owed him $50!
Bertie Walsh explained to me that the grab bars were firm, but that he had to install them in the metal. Should they loosen, over time, do not risk injury, by all means call him.
