Customers say: True professional

"He explained to me why I have been having trouble with the storm door since it was installed and finally tightened the frame so that it shut firmly. I have had this looked at both by the company that installled it and by another handyman before and they had not helped. He also reattached some wood onto a removable window grid and inserted the grid into the window so that it finally stayed put, which, again, it has not done for some time. He was straightforward, pleasant and very fair.

"The repair went well and looks good. I had to provide all of the materials and do all of the preparation. But for the cost, it was fair. And the carpenter cleaned up afterwards and left everything stacked nicely. The experience was a little less personal than I typically like.

"Replaced 3 privacy fence post. This required digging out the concrete to place new posts. They used a form cement that was setup in 15 minutes. They reinstalled the original fencing. They removed all concrete and rotted posts. The project took longer then they had expected."

"ryan did an amazing job on our home! We had very specific time frame and he worked late to make sure it was completed for us. He worked around our large furniture and helped us come up with a plan to make it easier for us before and after the floors were completed. He was very meticulous and took pride in every part of the job. He was very professional and clean during the process so we had no clean up after completion. His pricing was very affordable and his work was beyond our expectations. We will be contacting him for future projects and recommending him to anyone who has a project for their home."

"Extremely pleased with both the level of professionalism and customer service. Martin and his assistants went above and beyond what I expected. Very positive experience, which has been rare in our recent construction experiences. On time, quality work, does what he says and has great ideas. You can tell he is a true carpenter/designer that loves his work. We highly recommend and have already requested him for future projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.
