"Manuel completely rebuilt the inside of our fireplace that included installing a new cast iron burner/starter, all new wall panels, and tearing out and putting in fresh new concrete for the "floor" He also cleaned our chimney. I had 3 different fireplace repair company's come to my home and I immediately liked Manuel, partially choosing him for this reason and the fact that he many 5 star reviews. That sealed the deal. He did very good work. Mark H. Elgin, IL"

"Jon was great to work with. He was professional and friendly. He gave me a fair quote and then delivered on our fireplace hearth repair. He and Mario were in an out in no time and our hearth looks great. Plus, he cleaned up - like really cleaned up - any and all mess. I couldn't even tell that they were there. I highly recommend them."

"Robert returned my original call the same day within an hour and came out to assess the problem later that very same day.  He took a walk around the entire house and pointed out several possible problems and suggested several ways to go about resolving the problems on my own and even suggested materials that could be used to do so.  He was very helpful in answering all of my questions and even pointed out a problem that I didn't even know existed on my fireplace chimney.  He set up a time to commence the work on repairing the crack in the masonry wall and arrived on time to start the work.  I was kept well informed of his progress on the job and he made sure that I was satisfied with the work that he had done before leaving and he made sure that everything was cleaned up.  I felt that his price was very reasonable and I also made arrangements for him to come back and repair the two cracks that I have in the foundation of the house.  I would highly recommend him to anyone needing any type of masonry work performed.  It is refreshing to find someone who is so conscientious and hard working.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Neglecting to clean your chimney can lead to serious safety hazards. A primary risk is the buildup of creosote, a highly flammable substance that can ignite and cause a dangerous chimney fire. This buildup can also create blockages in the flue, resulting in poor venting of smoke, soot, and toxic gases like carbon monoxide, which can then enter your home and create dangerously poor indoor air quality. Additionally, creosote is acidic and can damage the chimney's mortar and metal components over time, potentially allowing smoke to leak into your house. To prevent these issues, it is essential to schedule an annual chimney cleaning with a professional.

Removing and demolishing a fireplace is extremely labor intensive work that also takes a long time. You need to use brute strength to break apart the brick and masonry, and carry the debris to a dumpster. Depending on the size of the structure, you may need multiple days to fully remove it. After removal, you need to determine how you will repair the wall that held the fireplace, which can also be quite time consuming and challenging.

Gas-burning fireplaces need servicing to keep them in proper working order. You should call a fireplace pro to inspect and clean your gas-burning fireplace at least once per year or whenever problems arise. Servicing your gas-burning fireplace will help it function properly while also extending its lifespan. It’ll also ensure that your fireplace is operating safely.

The height of the chimney for your outdoor fireplace depends on where the fireplace is located. Ideally, the chimney should be 2 to 3 feet higher than surrounding structures; this allows smoke to ventilate properly without endangering anyone or anything.

Note: Your municipality may have strict requirements regarding chimney heights, so it’s always a good idea to check local building codes.

In homes that have a gas furnace, it's typically the heating system that uses the most gas. That explains why your gas bill is almost always higher in the winter and other colder months than it is in the summer. Other appliances that may use gas include your water heater, clothes dryer, and stove.
