"One crew went on top of the chimney to inspect the fireplace while the second crew swept inside the fireplace pit (?). They found some cracks in the chimney, which they suggested to repair before using the fireplace for the potential fire hazard. They were courteous and professional. They gave us an estimate for the repair and would have cost 2k or more. Ultimately, we decided to wait on using our fireplace and get more estimates in the future."

In general, it will take about 90 minutes to burn the creosote sweeping log by itself, allowing it to work its magic. This may be longer or shorter depending on the conditions of your chimney.

The answer can vary widely based on a home's age and design. As with any type of remodeling project, assume that every structure is load-bearing until confirming otherwise with a structural engineer. Almost all modern homes have chimneys that are fully independent from the rest of the home's framing. As a result, they don't bear any load beyond their own weight. If you would rather use vinegar to clean the stone fireplace instead of dish soap, this mixture should work fine. Vinegar is slightly acidic, however, so it may etch some kinds of stone without quite a bit of diluting. For a stone fireplace, dilute it to about one cup of vinegar for every gallon of hot water. It’s a smart idea to test the diluted mixture in an inconspicuous area of the fireplace and watch for etching. You can use vinegar to clean quite a few different items around your home, and it’s especially good at removing stains.

This will depend on the size of the pellet stove and how much of the house you’re heating, i.e. just one room or the entire house. Many pellet stoves use anywhere from 80 to 345 watts of electricity per hour. In terms of the pellets, a 40-pound bag can cost $5 to $9. A bag of pellets will burn for about 24 hours.

Pellet stoves are designed to run for several hours at a time. Running them for an entire day is not uncommon. More advanced models can run continuously for up to 48 hours, making them ideal if you live in extremely cold conditions and don't want to keep refueling the stove.
