"Mine was a difficult project with several rooms, hallways, and passageways with a two-story family room. There was a lot of furniture to move around and a brand new carpet already installed. Dr. Paint's people were VERY professional and did the job in four days as promised, paying special attention to cleaning up at the end of each day. Considering all that had to be done they worked very fast but without compromising quality. There was tiny punch list at the end of the project that Derek, the owner, resolved very quickly. Delighted with their work and would most definitely recommend Dr. Paint to anyone else."

"ProVision did an excellent job of removing difficult wallpaper and painting in our en-suite bathroom. The paint color they helped us choos was perfect. They left the work area in spotless condition and left remaining paint availble for any future touch-ups."

"The main factor in hiring Bazan Painting Projects was their responsiveness and then the price. Ray met other quotes in price and scope of work, and provided the final contract in a timely manner. The crew showed up on time everyday of the project, and worked hard each day (in the extreme heat!). The workmanship was outstanding and they cleaned up after the project perfectly. The crew needed to return for minor details and did so promptly and to our complete satisfaction. I would absolutely recommend hiring Ray and his team for your painting needs."

"Anthony and team did a superb job. Many painters were not open to both the wood repairs and the painting project, and Anthony was confident in the solutions he recommended and willing to stand by a firm quote. They completed the prep, painting, and the complex wood repairs well. They replaced a large section of siding, which was the most economical and best solution for the areas of deteriorated siding, and left the home looking great. They replaced part of one window sill on an older window, a whole area of siding, and trim and fascia on my porch. Upon removal of the rotted fascia, they found another rotted wood behind, and were able to fix that as well at a reasonable cost. The painting prep and painting was done with attention to detail. They also made a point to leave me with extra paint in case I needed in the future. From the initial quote, to the scheduling, to the completion of the job, they were organized, on time, and delivered on their commitments. Trustworthy, expert work throughout."

"Oscar and his team painted our second story bedrooms and hallway for us. Five total rooms. His workmanship and attention to detail were fantastic. His team protected our brand new floors and radiators, patched and leveled our walls in places and exceeded our expectations. We will be hiring him and his team for additional projects in the spring. Thank you again Oscar!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

If it rains after you paint your fence, you may need to apply another coat of paint after the fence thoroughly dries. This will ensure a good seal if the rain weakened any areas of the paint. However, if your paint had enough time to dry thoroughly before it rained, you should have no problem.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

Staining a wood fence isn’t guaranteed to prevent warping, but it can help. Plus, it’s a beginner-friendly DIY project that you can finish in a few days. If you want to try it, you’ll start by stripping it of any old stain or paint, then sanding it. After that, you’ll clean it and spot-treat any mold or mildew. When it’s dry, you can apply the stain.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.
