"Great experience working with this company! They repaired and fixed drywall in my home and did an excellent job. The pricing was fair, the quality of work was great, and I really appreciated that they gave me multiple options instead of pushing unnecessary work. Professional, honest, and easy to work with. Highly recommend!"

"I had water leaking from the roof of my garage (raised ranch). I wasn't sure where it was coming from. I contacted Mr. Handyman and they sent Aron out. He removed the soaked drywall in the garage to see where it was coming from. He then walked upstairs and found the leak coming from the plastic hose connected my refrigerator that had started to fray. He cut out the soaked drywall in the kitchen and replaced the plastic hose and valve that was connected to the main water pipe that fed the refrigerator. His communication was great, as he wanted to make sure I was comfortable with what he was doing. He even fixed another small issue that I'd been neglecting that was a trip hazard in the house. He was in and out in two hours. The kitchen and garage ceiling still need to be drywalled, but that couldn't be done until the space dried out. I will definitely be calling them back to have them do that work, as well."

"The work was very professional. After the two man part of the job was finished Hector worked all day taping the ceiling in my garage and repairing some areas in our family room. Compared to other projects the cost was reasonable."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

While you should consult with a ceiling professional for larger cracks, especially if you’re not sure what’s causing your ceiling to crack, you can certainly try to repair small cracks on your own. If you’re up for the task, here’s how to repair ceiling cracks for $150 or less.

In most cases, it is worth removing popcorn ceilings because they are considered outdated and can make a home more difficult to sell. Buyers typically prefer a smooth, modern finish, so removing the texture can increase a home's value and appeal. The necessity can sometimes depend on the housing market; in a competitive market, buyers may be more willing to overlook minor renovations. The most critical factor is the potential presence of asbestos, which is common in older popcorn ceilings and poses a significant health hazard if the material deteriorates. If you know your ceiling contains asbestos, you are required to disclose this when selling, which can be a major deterrent for buyers. In this situation, it is highly recommended to have a professional remove or encapsulate the ceiling to resolve the issue before it impacts the sale.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity due to their outdated appearance, difficult maintenance, and potential health risks. Ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos, which poses a serious health hazard if disturbed. As design trends have shifted towards sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now favor smoother ceilings that offer a cleaner look and easier upkeep.

However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as acoustic dampening and the ability to hide imperfections. Some people also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective option. Ultimately, whether a popcorn ceiling is 'bad' depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and the overall aesthetic of the home.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

Most handy homeowners can tackle removing texture from unpainted walls. Removing texture from painted walls is a bit trickier. Paint acts as a sealant, so you can’t soften the texture with water. Instead, you’ll have to add a layer of drywall compound known as a skim coat. This process is messy and takes some practice.
