"Week before last we thought we had a clogged toilet.. It was apparently the main sewer line. We called a commercial franchise plumber out and $550 later we thought everything was fixed. This was on a Thursday. By the following Monday we were experiencing the same thing. We call them back out because it was a 6 month warranty. They diagnosed the issue stating we needed to get the main sewer line ( about 1-3 feet) replaced and they would need to dig a huge hole in the basement and etc.. Estimate was more than a small car. I called around to a few other companies and got more expensive quotes. I called A1 Patrick's Plumbing & Sewer Services - Plumbing Contractor & Plumbing Installation and he came out the same night ( last tuesday) and gave me a resonable quote for the same services. When I tell you I am so glad I called this man. My house is 70 years old and my family has lived here for 26 years. This sewer line was CLOGGED... his team dug the hole, replaced the pipes, cleaned them out and discovered tree roots and 4 feet of stuff that shall not be named. He & his team installed a cleanout in case this happened again we wouldn't have an issue getting it cleaned. This company hands down had excellent service and the owner was respectful, nice and delivered what he promised plus a 10 year warranty ."

"We are new homeowners and had a hole in our septic tank made of concrete block, which was sending wastewater into the foundation/basement of the home. It was my first time using Angie's List, and I would recommend Illinois Sewer and Drain to anyone. Joe and his team of experts solved our issue immediately at an affordable price. They even went above and beyond to install a sump pump in our basement to help with the rain water. Quality work!!"

"Within 5 minutes of requesting a quote, they texted me and then called me. My kitchen sink was stopped up in both drains. I had tried draino but it didn't work. Unfortunately the appointment i had for the next day was canceled but rescheduled for the following day and at the time I needed. Gabriel C was my technician that came over to unclog my drain. He was very polite, professional and clean. He was able to get the water out thru the drain pipe right under the sink. He then pulled the rest of my pipes off and found the clog. He was able to get the gunk out and used his equipment and there were no more clogs down the rest of the pipes. He wore his booties inside and cleaned up after himself. I highly recommend Gabriel C for any of your plumbing needs."

"I recently had Mike Orlando, owner of DaVinci Plumbing contractors, complete an ambitious flood relief project in my backyard and garage. After enduring flooding over 30+ years, I was finally compelled to act, as standing water in the yard has become an increasing problem with the growing intensity of our storms. My backyard neighbor claims the high ground which, of course, means that I receive ALL of their runoff, too. It had gotten to the point that I measured 6” of standing water at the low point of the yard in the most recent spring rains. In addition, the water now covered nearly the entire backyard making it impossible to grow grass let alone enjoy it because water sat for days on end. Other problems that I was forced to address included a downspout that serviced the entire backyard roof, but which had no point of discharge except for the water to pond under my wood deck until it found its way into the attached garage, issues related to chronic flooding in my drive-down garage from the floor drain (muddy water bubbling up), and from water that stacked up outside of the garage door until it seeped in from underneath. Mike described a plan that addressed all of this, but what impressed me the most was the way he described the care that he would take in protecting my side garden, the flagstone steppers, wood deck, shrubs, trees and work around buried low voltage landscaping lights and overhead phone service while operating an excavator and bobcat to dig an 8’ deep x 4’ wide hole that would receive multiple concrete sections that would form the water basin with sump pump. He also described how he would connect the downspout to the water basin by tying in pvc pipe, and install a new driveway-wide drain tile to replace an inadequately sized box drain that couldn’t handle the volume of rainwater. He and his able crew: Louie, Bobby, and Chico worked with impressive precision and efficiency. Louie drove the bobcat back and forth through the side yard without damaging my landscaping. Mike was on the excavator digging with the precision of a surgeon to avoid the overhanging phoneline, trees and low voltage landscape lights. Bobby was in the middle of all of the toughest work from leveling out the pit 8’ below ground, to handling the finish carpentry on the deck, and pouring and trimming the concrete to set the driveway drain tile. Chico was the able assistant who worked as Bobby’s second. It was two full days of work and since they left there have been two heavy downpours. For the first time EVER, my back yard has not ponded over. Do you know what a relief it is to finally see a dry yard after a storm? After the first rainstorm, water did re-emerge from the garage floor drain, and when I called Mike about it, he was genuinely distressed. He immediately had his crew back the first thing the next morning and they re-rodded all of the lines thoroughly a second time. It rained that night and I was so pleased to finally s"

Storm Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Some storm doors might need two closers, depending on the weather conditions in the area. For example, if it’s particularly windy where you live, installing two storm door closers (instead of one) can prevent your door from slamming shut when it’s propped open. You can place one at the top of your door and another at the bottom.

It does matter which way a hinge is installed because it’s possible to install a hinge backward. The hinge pin should face the direction in which the door will swing, making the pin visible. Exterior doors that swing outward need a security hinge with an Allen set screw in the center to prevent someone from removing the hinge from the outside and accessing the home or business.

Outswing doors are more popular for exterior doors as they offer more room for moving items in and out of a home. And because the hinges are on the outside of the door, they’re more secure against potential break-ins. But, outswing doors are more susceptible to the elements and are more expensive. Comparing inswing vs. outswing doors depends on your budget, needs, and overall preference.

If you know the damage a hurricane can cause, you know how essential it is to protect your home. Getting ready for hurricane season can go beyond roofing reinforcement and extend to other external entry points where water and wind could damage your home. You may want to install hurricane window film to protect windows and glass doors or invest in storm windows. Storm windows cost an average of $12,000 and offer impact-resistant window surfaces with a better chance of fending off high winds.

Storm door panels are typically made from tempered or laminated glass, and each type has its benefits. Tempered glass goes through a special heating and cooling process, increasing its strength and durability. It’s known for its safety features—when it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces rather than sharp shards. Laminated glass is made by sandwiching a layer of plastic between two layers of glass. This interlayer holds the glass pieces together even when shattered, preventing them from scattering.
