"I was going to have my wood burning fireplace converted to gas so they did a chimney inspection and discoverd extensive damage from birds nesting in chimney. They provided an immediate clean up estimate and I hired them to do that work to protect against further damage . They recommended that a gas fireplace was not a safe option so we talked through options for an electric insert. I decided to wait on that but was very impressed with customer service and quality of work."

"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

Small jobs welcome

"Very professional. Did an excellent job and was very careful with the work area to leave everything in good shape. He changed our brick planter into a wall around our front porch and increased the size of the porch. We are very pleased with his work and he was great to work with."

"They were prompt and courteous. They asked a few questions and answered all of our questions. We were new to fireplaces. We are both elderly...these guys took the time to explain the whole process associated with fireplaces. We had called them out to check only one of our fireplaces. I was so impressed with them that I ask them to check out our other. Their fees for checking the second fireplace was reasonable. So reasonable in fact that I tipped them substantially."

"I highly recommend Kitchen and Bath Specialties. They recently remodelled my elderly mothers bathroom and did a fantastic job at a reasonable price. They pay a lot of attention to detail and work through any issues very effectively. I recommended to my friend for her dads bathroom as well and it turned out great. Very honest and very good work. Cant go wrong."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Treat smoke spillage, gas odors, structural cracking, or a chimney fire as immediate life-safety emergencies requiring urgent fireplace service. You can schedule routine cleanings, mortar repointing, and cap replacements before the next heating season begins. Delay cosmetic repairs or minor crown sealing until the off-season. Because Peoria contractors experience peak demand from September through November, book non-emergency work in the spring.

Helpful?

Schedule fireplace service annually, ideally between March and September. You must also book an inspection if you notice crumbling exterior mortar, white brick staining, or smoke entering your living space. Peoria experiences severe thunderstorms and high winds, so always request an inspection after extreme weather. Furthermore, musty summer odors or gas ignition failures are clear signs that your system requires prompt professional attention.

Helpful?

When planning fireplace service, consider Peoria's cold winters and open prairie winds. Heavy use from October through March accelerates creosote buildup, while strong winds cause downdraft issues. You should also account for local freeze-thaw cycles, which accelerate mortar deterioration and chimney crown cracking. Finally, many older homes in the area have outdated clay liners or deteriorated masonry that require structural updates to remain safe.

Helpful?

Successful fireplace service relies on materials that withstand local weather. Use stainless steel flexible liners and multi-flue caps to handle IL freeze-thaw cycles and prairie winds. For older masonry, choose lime-based mortar instead of rigid cement to prevent brick damage. Inside the firebox, apply proper refractory brick and mortar. Any gas components installed must meet state standards and carry a recognized national safety listing.

Helpful?

Hiring professionals for fireplace service requires checking their credentials and insurance. Ensure your contractor holds the proper state credentials for any gas line work. Because older homes carry hidden structural risks, verify they carry general liability and workers' compensation insurance. A certified specialist familiar with IL building codes will navigate local permit requirements correctly and handle the specific masonry materials common in this region.
