"I was going to have my wood burning fireplace converted to gas so they did a chimney inspection and discoverd extensive damage from birds nesting in chimney. They provided an immediate clean up estimate and I hired them to do that work to protect against further damage . They recommended that a gas fireplace was not a safe option so we talked through options for an electric insert. I decided to wait on that but was very impressed with customer service and quality of work."

"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

Small jobs welcome

"Very professional. Did an excellent job and was very careful with the work area to leave everything in good shape. He changed our brick planter into a wall around our front porch and increased the size of the porch. We are very pleased with his work and he was great to work with."

My name is Kara and my husband Jason helps me run our own small home cleaning business for the past 3 years. We cover a pretty wide range of area from Bloomington to Princeton. We are located in Chillicothe IL. We do general deep cleans to move in and out cleans. Also some general side work like windows, carpet cleaning, deck painting, and general lawn care as well. You ask we will let you know if we can do it. Cleaning as a team of 2 just gets your home cleaned faster and more efficient. It cuts the time in half as most people prefer this. We have many references and would enjoy seeing some new faces. Our clients truly become like family. I originally started cleaning for merry maids & cottage care in my early 20’s once I had my first child I started back into it so she could come with me & not have to go to daycare. I have over 15 years in this industry and can usually make things look brand new again! Instant gratification feels good I look forward to making your home sparkle again

"They were prompt and courteous. They asked a few questions and answered all of our questions. We were new to fireplaces. We are both elderly...these guys took the time to explain the whole process associated with fireplaces. We had called them out to check only one of our fireplaces. I was so impressed with them that I ask them to check out our other. Their fees for checking the second fireplace was reasonable. So reasonable in fact that I tipped them substantially."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A fireplace can increase a home's value by as much as 12%, with some reports indicating that homes with fireplaces list for around 13% more than the median sale price. Fireplaces are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, adding a charm that many homebuyers find desirable. The actual return on investment depends on the fireplace's size, type, and material.

However, a fireplace can detract from a property's value if it is unusable, not up to code, or in need of immediate repairs. The type of fireplace also matters; custom electric fireplaces and inserts can add value, while freestanding units that can be removed have less impact.

Running a gas fireplace costs approximately $0.35 per hour for natural gas and $0.62 per hour for propane, though these figures can vary significantly based on fuel prices in your area. On average, the annual cost to run a gas fireplace is between $400 and $640. The exact impact on your utility bill depends on several factors, including how often you use it, the size of the room you're heating, and the fireplace's BTU rating. Some models with a constantly running pilot light will consume a minimal amount of energy even when off, although many modern fireplaces do not require one. If you are looking for a more energy-efficient option, consider an electric fireplace.

You may have some limitations when looking for materials and a design to reface your gas fireplace versus what’s available for a traditional wood-burning fireplace. Some gas fireplace surround ideas include stone, concrete, brick, tile, wood, steel, and plaster. However, you should check with the manufacturer of your gas fireplace model to determine if you have any limitations on what you can use.

Wood fireplace inserts produce more heat without replacing the whole system. A fireplace installer can verify that you have a connector and chimney system to fit the wood-burning insert.

Gas fireplace inserts require less maintenance and are an efficient way to produce warmth. Some can also produce heat in the event of a power outage.

Electric fireplace inserts don't have a real open flame, so they produce flames that mimic a real fire surrounded by artificial logs with LED light. Many electric fireplace inserts produce heat from glowing elements while only using electricity.

The lifespan of a chimney damper depends on several factors, including its material, how often the fireplace is used, and the amount of debris that enters the chimney. With proper maintenance, an average damper can last about 20 years. To ensure it is functioning correctly, it is best to have it professionally inspected. Some experts recommend an annual inspection, while others suggest having a chimney sweep inspect and clean it every two years. A professional can assess the damper's condition and determine if a replacement is necessary.
