"Mr. Jim Gorman who is the owner of the business called me back within a half hour of my email posting. He visited my home 3 days later, inspected things, and told me what the approximate cost would be. He and his helper then installed an entire lightning protection system on both my house and a back garage/storage area. He did things exactly as I wanted in every way. Also threw in a free weathervane which increased the beauty of my home. I would have no objection to recommending this gentleman and his company to anyone who is in need of a competently installed lightning protection system for their home/property. MID-AMERICA LIGHTNING RODS is one fine company run by a man who cares about doing good work according to the latest safety codes etc. Having lost my previous retirement home to lightning, it was very important to me to get this job done and quickly because the thunderstorm season is upon us and with the climate change, those storms are very wicked, especially here out in the country where i live!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Peoria, warning signs like persistent flickering lights, buzzing outlets, frequent circuit breaker trips, or outlets that feel hot to the touch indicate underlying electrical safety concerns. If you notice discolored switch plates or rely on extension cords due to limited outlets, these could signal outdated wiring or overloaded circuits. Addressing these early helps prevent more extensive electrical repairs and ensures your home wiring remains up to code.

Helpful?

Peoria homes with thick plaster walls, balloon framing, or stone foundations can make rewiring or adding circuits more complex. Multi-story layouts, finished attics, and basements often limit access to wiring pathways. Historic homes may have preservation restrictions, while slab-on-grade foundations restrict under-floor wiring. Knowing your home’s construction style helps anticipate challenges and plan electrical projects that meet both local codes and your needs.

Helpful?

Upgrading electrical systems in Peoria significantly enhances home value and buyer appeal. Modern breaker panels, whole-home surge protection, and smart home wiring are attractive to buyers and help meet current inspection standards. Improvements like updated kitchen circuits, outdoor lighting, and EV charging readiness reflect local trends and weather needs, while also supporting electrical safety—making your home stand out in the IL real estate market.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Peoria should prioritize a thorough electrical inspection, especially if the home is over 40 years old. Upgrading to a modern breaker panel, installing GFCI and AFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry areas, and updating smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are essential. Adding grounded outlets, surge protection, and preparing for future EV charging can also boost electrical safety and home functionality.

Helpful?

In Peoria, homes built before the 1970s often have outdated electrical panels, cloth-insulated or aluminum wiring, and limited outlets, especially in older neighborhoods. Harsh winters and humid summers can accelerate wear on exterior outlets and lighting. Kitchens, bathrooms, and finished basements are high-demand areas where GFCI outlets, dedicated appliance circuits, and moisture-resistant wiring frequently need upgrades to maintain electrical safety and reliability.
