"Our boiler went out over a holiday weekend. All Temp was quick to reply to my inquiry and quick to send someone out. Our boiler was assessed and they replaced the boiler and old pipes within a day. They were the most reasonable in town and they did an excellent job. Everyone we worked with was very professional."

"It went quite well. The technicians (yes, two) showed up close to the scheduled time (there was a window allowed for arrival) and got right to work. They checked the furnace and determined there were no problems and moved on the boiler (we have both forced-air and baseboard heating). There was a problem with the thermocouple and I authorized replacement. All done and gone in roughly an hour. Well done."

Customers say: True professional

"When the A/C in a townhouse we own started failing (about 20yrs old), we searched for companies that could replace it . The first one was quite responsive, came out and did an assessment and gave us a quote to replace the HVAC system. Their price quote almost knocked us over. Looking for another alternative, we contacted MMDS and sent them pictures of the current set-up. Michael gave us a quote estimate over the phone that was thousands!! less than the original quote for the same equipment. We approved MMDS quote on a Tuesday, got the permit approved on Wed, and they installed the system on Friday. The installer was very professional and even fixed an issue with the dryer vent while he was there. The final price was exactly as originally quoted with no add-ons. A company with this kind of service and response really deserves more than 5 stars. We highly recommend!"

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

Chilled water HVAC systems use water instead of traditional components and refrigerants. They're more common in commercial settings than residential ones but are slowly being adopted by some homebuilders to cool homes. As the name implies, the system keeps the water chilled at 40 degrees and circulates it through water coils. The water absorbs the heat from your home and drains outdoors. Condo apartments are more likely to have chilled water HVAC than single-family homes because this system is designed to cool several rooms or large areas individually.

A home radiator works by using radiation and convection to transfer heat throughout your home. Electric radiators use metal to conduct heat and warm the air, which then rises to warm the room. Steam and hot water radiators work with a boiler and piping system to pump thermal energy throughout the home. Hot water radiators use a boiler to heat the water before circulating it to the radiator, while steam heating radiator systems convert the heated water to steam before circulating it out. When the water or steam cools, it travels back to the boiler to be heated again.

Most installations take 2-5 days, including old system removal and setup.

Steam boilers require flushing at least every six to 12 months to keep them operating effectively for as long as possible. Depending on your water quality and frequency of use, you might need to do this more frequently. The flushing process helps to remove problematic buildup of sediments. While a boiler contractor near you can perform a thorough annual flush, learning how to drain the system yourself means you can do this monthly if you experience speedy mineral accumulation because of hard water.
