"I learned late afternoon that I needed a well chlorination ASAP to continue with closing on the sale of my house and Aquatico wasted no time helping me out. Ryan was on site the very next morning and was super kind and informative. I called to bug him for an update almost daily (sorry!) and he answered the phone every time and always had a progress update for me. Will definitely use them for anything I need in the future. Thanks again!!"

"The salemam put on an hour presentation so that I could see my bad water verses the filtered water. He was patient with me and most importantly he didn t act as if he was wasting his time and assume that I couldn t pay for the system. The system works great and I saw a difference immediately. The system was installed neatly and I although I initially inquired about the water system for bathing and washing only; I also purchased the reverse osmosis system for drinking water. They are pricey though."

"Mark was great! When I initially contacted him, he told me how to try and correct the problem myself. I respect him for that. Most other companies would come and charge a service fee for that. I ended up needing a new softener. Mark came within a few days. Very prompt, honest and professional. I will definitely refer him to anyone I know that needs a new water softener. Michelle C. "Totally amazing product. The first day it was installed, our cleaning lady called my wife asking what we did to the water, the difference was unbelievable. I did the install myself and Robert asked for photos during the process and walked me through everything as if he was standing in my basement. We could not be more pleased. Our well water is the standard in the neighborhood. While other people were talked into just a water softener, Robert told us we needed a iron remover from the water test he had us have performed. These folks know water!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is safe to bathe in yellow water, as the color is often caused by iron, tannins, or rust, which won't harm your skin. Soap will still clean you effectively, though the water might leave stains. However, if the water has an unusual smell or you suspect contamination, avoid bathing and contact a plumber for an inspection. A professional can also help if you find bathing in yellow water problematic and want to determine how to get your water clear again.

Installing a water softener could help reduce calcium buildup in your pool if your pool has high calcium hardness as a result of hard drinking water in your home. Pool softeners work by exchanging calcium and magnesium for sodium, so if you use softened water to top off your pool, it may help keep calcium hardness from rising over time. However, it won’t lower the calcium hardness of the water already in your pool and isn’t a practical way to control pool calcium levels. The average water softener installation cost is between $200 and $6,000.

You can decide whether you need a water softener or water filter based on how your bathing or laundry experience is. If you notice issues like limescale buildup, dry skin, or stains on dishes—all telltale signs of hard water—you'd likely benefit from a water softener. However, if your main concern is over chemicals or bacteria in your tap water filter, and not just comfort, a filter is a better option.

Whether you need a license or permit for water softener installation depends on your location. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, while others may only require a permit and an inspection. In some cases, both a permit and a licensed installer are necessary, and some areas have no requirements at all. Often, only certified plumbers and electricians are allowed to pull the necessary permits. To find out the specific regulations in your area, you can contact your local building department. Alternatively, a local water softener installer or plumber will be familiar with the requirements and can typically pull the permits for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use tools like Angi’s state licensing tool to verify an installer's license status.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.
