"At first I received two quotes, 1 from Aspen Fence and 1 from Golden Fence. In hind site I should have used Golden Fence. (sorry Golden Fence)
I picked Aspen Fence because their proposal looked to be more professional, so I justified the extra $250 that they were because of that.
The problem was that I had two gates on the project and Golden Fence included 4x6 posts on BOTH gates and Aspen didn't include any  larger posts on either gate. I spoke with Jeff at Aspen and he wanted to charge me extra for adding the larger posts and I had to twist his arm to up-size the posts at ONE gate for no extra charge.
Then Jeff called me 12 hours before his guys were going to show up and asked me if I got the permit when I was under the impression he was getting the permit so I had to pay extra for that and I had to pull favor with the village to expidite it thru the system.
Then when the guys showed up the asked my wife "where do you want us to put the dirt from the holes". WHAT??? Since when does a contractor give you a price to make holes and a mess and ask you where to put the spoils? I've been in construction and construction project management for 30+ years, I've NEVER had a contractor ask me where to put the trash and spoils they generate. You make it you take it! So I called Jeff to ask him his thought on that and he said "well we never take the dirt away, we usually spread it around the property where the customer wants it". He told me he would charge me extra to take the dirt away ($7/hole) and I had something like 22 holes so he wanted to charge me another $150 to take his trash away.
I informed him he should've spelled that out on his quote and he said I was the first to have a problem with it.
Needless to say I wasn't blown away with the whole "Aspen experience" and I would caution anyone considering using them. If you're getting a bid from them NAIL THEM DOWN IN WRITING about EVERYTHING!!!! Time, duration, drawings, details, permits, spoils, layout........
The workmanship was fine and they did come back out to fix some things free of charge but I just wanted to share my experience.
Good luck and God bless to you all.

"This company was not honest with me when they came out to do an estimate. They showed us a board that would supposedly match the ones we had damaged but we later found out that they would have been too thin. We also felt rushed in the decision making process, as the man kept insisting that we had to get it done right away. When he quoted the price, he asked us if we were claiming it on of our insurance and what deductible we had and we mistakenly told him five hundred dollars, the estimate he gave us was eleven hundred dollars, obviously the price plus the deductible. We decided these men wouldn t be the right people to do our job and we were really glad we made this decision because the people we did have complete the work only charged us six hundred and eighty five dollars total."

"Had taken over management of owner occupied 3 flat apartment building. Recently leased apartment to new tenant. Found that work done on master bathroom by someone hired by owner less than two years ago was faulty. A leak in bath room in apartment above had been discovered and fixed, but who ever owner hired to do repair on water damage to this bathroom apparently never replaced wet wall board, just painted and tiled over!
Also about time I was getting quotes for repairing this bathroom, I replaced the old drop-in stove top in the apartment with a new one. However the old unit had knobs in front, while new one had controls on top. This left a open cutout in front of cabinet.
Tom had been out of town when I first started getting quotes, and I had almost decided on an other provider. However, he offered to meet me at the building at my convenience (I am only there once or twice a week) to see what was needed and give me a quote on the spot.
He showed up on time. When I showed him the main 'job' - the master bath- I gave him minimum information. His answers as to what probably happened and what would be needed, depending on extent of hidden damage was spot on. I also liked his suggestions as to how he would fix the problems.  As we went through the apartment I ask the tenant to show us anything else she felt needed to be 'fixed/adjusted'.  Tom gave good answers to the few items she pointed out., and, while honest, did not put me into any bind or make apartment owner seem bad.
After we left the tenant, Tom explained to me what he would do, and how long he expected to take. I also went into more detail about 'prior' fix with him at that time, though it appeared he easily was able to see what had happened. Tom gave me expected time to do all the fixes, and price. I was impressed that he just about promised all could be done in one day without disrupting tenant to any major degree.  Also, he would be able start within a reasonable time frame, which was important to me.
Tom came out and did the work with in  the next week. While I was not able to be there at the time, I reviewed the work he did several days later. He did a very good job. Also, important to me, the tenant was also pleased and complemented his professionalism. He did quality work, timely, and at a very reasonable price.
I am going to use Tom for future jobs as needed at the building. Not only I will recommend him to others, but here are some projects in the near future I am planning at my own home about which I will be contacting him.

"Rick was very professional and timely. He came out on the morning he said he would and replaced and repaired the posts as discussed during his initial estimate visit. He was in contact with us through the entire process. I would certainly recommend him to all of my family and friends. Great guy to work with!"

"I used them through Angie’s List offer on a daily deal thing and it was $99 for three hours. He certainly seemed very good at what he does. He seemed to know what he was doing. I get the feeling that whatever I needed to be done around my house if it needs to be fixed then I call him and he would know how to do it. There was a bit a problem like he arrived late because his GPRS was wrong and came an hour late. He was obviously very rushed. Even though I purchased the three hour deal he was here only for two hours and me basically I said to go-a-head as he was obviously so rushed to get to the next job even though I didn’t have anything else to be done around the house. From that perspective I think that there were many customers who responded to the Angie’s List deal and sometimes it creates too much work but he was very nice guy. His wife who does all the phone work and everything was very professional as well. Even though it wasn’t his fault he came late."

"

Thank you Accugage Construction for coming to my rescue!!!! I purchased one of those home maintenance insurance programs (where they will service my appliance, furnace, water heater and pumping as needed) when I purchased my home. When I called them to service my furnace during the last Chicago freeze, I had problems with getting them to come out right away. That's when I remembered the Accugage Construction Company I used before and my friends also used to repair their furnace. So, I decided to call them when I started having problems with my furnace again. When I called Accugage Construction, they remembered the work that they previously done for me and that made me feel good. From the time Jody (the service guy) came to my home, he assured me that he would have my furnace up and running. He did get it working again and for a reasonable price of $300. A friend of mine also had a similar problem with her furnace and had to pay $450 to the Contractor she used.  The service guy also gave my furnace a thorough check up and found that my igniter could possibly go out within three to four months. So, he recommended that I replace it and keep the old one for emergencies. I accepted his recommendation to replace the igniter also.

Now I'm cozy and feeling very secure in the fact of knowing that my furnace is really putting out some heat now.

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost to install a gate varies widely, with a typical range between $1,500 and $7,000. The average cost is around $3,500. However, the final price can be as low as $200 for a simple gate or as high as $12,000 for a large, automated security gate.

Key factors that determine the installation cost include:

  • Gate Material: This is a primary cost factor. Chain-link and vinyl are the most affordable, while wood and PVC are mid-range options. Wrought iron, aluminum, and other metals are the most expensive materials.

  • Automation: Automated gates are significantly more expensive than manual ones because they require motors, sensors, controls, and electrical installation.

  • Size and Type: The dimensions and style of the gate (e.g., swinging vs. sliding) will impact the price.

  • Security Level: Gates with advanced security features will increase the overall cost.

This largely depends on the layout of your property and your preferred walking route to various entryways. Take your time figuring out the perfect spot for the gate to avoid difficulties later on. With all this said, the best place to put a gate is an area free from obstructions that offer the shortest route to your house.

Features include automation, intercoms, keypads, and decorative elements. Custom options enhance security and style.

Yes, clean regularly, lubricate hinges or tracks, and inspect for damage to ensure smooth operation.

Automatic gate openers last around 10 years, but this time span depends on several external factors, like the type of gate they're attached to and how well you’ve kept up with general maintenance. Despite lasting a decade, you should still expect to complete one or two repairs in that time, as some components will fail before others.
