"I was looking through Angie's list to hire an Architect and noticed "Mark Anderson Architects" was open (it was 7:30pm). Decided to give a call and I was expecting a receptionist to answer, but it was Mark himself. Talked to him about the project I had in mind and he gave me all the information over the phone. He was very straight forward. Thanks for your time Mark."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Our experience with AP Builder was great. Angelo was very knowledgeable and professional, keeping us informed every step of the way. This was a big important project for our home and I am extremely happy with how it came out! The cost was very reasonable and there were no surprises, everything was open and honest. I would definitely use them again and recommend to friends and family. Thank you AP!"

"Raul and his team were wonderful to work with. After completely renovating the exterior of our home and removing a large deck of the back of the house, our yard was in shambles. We reached out to Raul to help us install a new paver patio, walkway, and garage access, and then re-sod a portion of the yard that was torn up. His prices were 1/3 less than many of the other quotes we got and he was able to start work within a week. His crew was incredibly hardworking and cleaned up at the end of each day. Raul had great ideas for both the hardscape surfaces and some future landscaping projects to enhance our yard. I recommend him and his entire team without hesitation and we look forward to working with him again in the future!"

"Hector and his crew did an amazing job. They started the project within a couple days of reviewing what I wanted done, and worked several days under some extremely hot conditions. The patio, walkway and front paver/flower bed looks amazing. The plan is to get them back out to build an enclosure for my grill!!! Do not hesitate to Aerate 1."

"Everything was great and well thought of. They gave some suggestions initially of some ideas to do beyond what we asked. Would hire again and more than likely will for some other work we want done. Would highly recommend"

Architects questions, answered by experts

Your state’s architect licensing registry is an excellent place to begin when finding an architect. The state must license architects after completing the required education and with a minimum amount of experience. You can also ask other homeowners with similar projects who they used and their experience.

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.

Choose an architect based on their portfolio, experience with similar projects, client reviews, and whether their design approach matches your vision.

While possible for small projects, professional designers ensure compliance with building codes and structural integrity.

Get prepared to meet with an architect by having a clear idea of what you’re looking for, a list of questions to ask, and as many project details as you can provide. The more information you can provide and receive from a prospective architect will help you decide who to hire.
