First off, the design and layout of the house we got is beautiful. Aside from that we have had so many issues with the quality and build of our house. We paid $5000 extra to have 2x6 exterior walls. The house was framed with 2x4 walls, and had we not checked on that I would imagine it would have stayed that way. The builder ended up attaching 2x2s to all of the studs. Not the ideal solution. While the building process was taking place, we would frequently get calls from the builder telling us we need to pick out stuff within two days. For example, we would get a call on a Tuesday where we told that all light fixtures had to be picked by Friday. How is that enough time for working people? The wood floor that was installed, was done under poor conditions, resulting in a severely cupped floor. The builder insisted that was normal. Luckily we had a home architect look at the floor and confirm this to be faulty installation. The floor had to be resanded and finished. Also, when purchasing the house, we were told the windows were very good, and would last. A few days ago, while watching TV, we heard a loud crash. A front window was open, and the bottom piece of wood was rotted and completely fell off. The glass pane slid down and cracked. Upon inspection of the rest of the main level windows, we found many others that are rotting. The window company is bankrupt, so our 7 year warranty is useless. Now we have to spend 20K to replace windows. For a half million dollar home, I would have expected some window choices, particularly the choice of vinyl windows. Our roof also leaked within the first year, and was supposedly fixed. Nope...still leaks...and out of the home warranty. A roofer just looked at it and found the problem. Faulty installation, and a lack of roofing paper where the leak is. The builder left no extra shingles for such situations, and says that is normally not done. Other builders have told me it is normal to leave a few to the home owner. I could add another 10+ issues we have had, but the bottom line is we will never use this builder. We feel many corners were cut, and the only concern was to get the house built as fast as he could get it done.
