I've used this company several times and each time they've been great. Calls are always answered promptly and appointments are quickly made. This time Jose repaired a sink leak with the usual professionalism I've come to expect from this company.

Jeff and his helper were FABULOUS. They were punctual, professional and reasonably priced. They cleaned up behind themselves. Did NOT leave a mess as other workmen have done in my home. I would DEFINITELY hire him again and would recommend him to others.

The Plumbing Department Inc was great. Our water heater died and they came out the same day to diagnose & quote. The next day the same person set up the new water heater. They always gave timeframes that were acceptable, and were able to show up earlier than expected. The plumber was professional and got the job done perfectly. I highly recommend them.

From the call to the Plumbing Department's office to completion of the rodding and camera inspection of our sewer line everything was done with complete professionalism and courtesy. We spoke with Stephanie at the office and she made it very easy to schedule our appointment. Jose came to look at our catch basin and offer suggestions on what to do. He was very courteous and explained everything that needed to be done as well as possibly more expensive and involved steps in case there was significant work to be done. Another appointment was made for the rodding and inspection. The office called in advance of Jose and Jeff Kafka's arrival at our house. Everything went extremely well. We couldn't have asked for a better, more professional experience. Without any doubt, we have found an excellent plumber to call again when the need arises. We would highly recommend The Plumbing Department, Inc.

Jose performed a quick and skilled repair on a burst pipe in our condo. He was professional and courteous. He worked with all parties involved to ensure the job was done right. We were told we would not having running water until Wednesday by a dozen other plumbers due to the recent cold weather, however Jose came by as soon as possible. He took the job, even on his son's birthday. I would recommend this team for any job. Their service is both reliable and professional.

Jeff and team were nothing short of phenomenal! After the 2019 Polar Vortex in Chicago, our condo association experienced a burst pipe at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning. Jeff was upfront about scope of work and cost when I explained the issue. They were very quick in locating the burst pipe, and although they had to cut into our wall, they displayed great care in making the least impact possible. The entire scope of work entailed finding the burst pipe, cutting into drywall, removing and replacing the pipe, and testing water pressure and water temperature prior to their departure. They also cleaned up debris generated from the project. This team is courteous, friendly, and professional. I highly recommend them and I will definitely reach out to The Plumbing Department, Inc. for future projects!

Jose showed up promptly as promised and was pleasant and friendly. He also used the over the shoe "booties" before he entered my place which I appreciated. I showed him the leak location as I had speculated, but within a few minutes he identified the problem as the faucet which was leaking internally and at the end. He told me the price to replace which I accepted and then he offered to purchase one for me and install it. As I wanted to get this solved, I agreed and we discussed the type of faucet I wanted. He even suggested replacing the old one which was chrome and didn't match the sink with a nickel one, which did. I appreciated that. He returned within 30 minutes with the new faucet which he then installed and tested. The leak is gone and I have a new faucet. All this done within 2 hours.

We have used Jeff in the past multiple times and generally been fine with the service and billing. When they arrived they provided a quote to our house manager to do the work described above as being $900. They began the work when our house manager called to clear the amount as it seemed high. We did not believe the task would take more than 4 hours so that would of amounted to an hourly of $225 an hour. Before we were able to stop the work, they cleared the toilet in approximately 10 minutes. We obviously are going to pay for the one task completed which was $200. I sent a note to the owners asking for their hourly rate. He did respond back immediately that they do not bill by the hour but rather the task. He indicated that this seems to work for customers as some plumbers may work faster than others and they appreciate the upfront set amount. That a fair point but might make sense to make sure the overall pricing makes sense as well when doing multiple tasks on one visit. In any event, we engage another plumber who completed all the work for $250. As I said, seem to do good work and are responsive. I was just hoping as a repeat customer they might appreciate that particular quote seemed very high.

"Very sorry to see the grades given in this review!! I have performed multiple tasks throughout the years for this particular customer. Yes we have flat rate pricing instead of open ticket hourly rates. In my experience it works better for all parties. It provides customers with reassurance of a fixed price no matter how long it takes. There were six separate tasks given that day to be performed. As a professional licensed, bonded and fully insured plumbing company I take each individual task and complete to the best of are abilities. For instance Rodding sinks, not just pulling hair out of a pop up assembly but making sure all tubular piping is disconnected and overlooked so nothing is missed. All is tested twice even three times once complete. No shortcuts are ever taken. To hear that another "plumber" performed this work for around $250 questions how THOROUGH of a job did they actually perform. I treat my customers home as if it were mine. There is a quote that I hear a lot in this industry and thats "You get what you pay for". I feel this review clearly is not comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges."

I called on Saturday afternoon and got the owner, Jeff. I explained the issue and we agreed that it could wait until Monday morning until the supply shops opened. Jose was here promptly at 8am and spent the day replacing the heater, including replacing and refitting piping. The unit is nice, the service was great and the price was fair. I'd hire again.

My call to the company was promptly answered and Jose C. was in my home within 2 hours. After trying to replace the broken part (and he tried hard) we decided a new faucet was in order. He agreed to shop for it for me and returned with an excellent choice. The installation was done quickly and efficiently. I could not be happier with the service from this company. Jose was just great. He was very professional, efficient, tidy, patient with my dog and did a wonderful job. Angie's List 10% discount was applied and the cost listed included materials.

I lost water pressure due to a busted pipe on the outside of my house. I called a few plumbers and Plumbing Department was the first to respond. We set up an appointment for the next morning. I told them I was also interested in replacing a toilet. I thought the owner and fellow I talked to - Jeff - was coming but as it turned out it was someone who works for him named Al. He called me the morning of the appointment to tell me exactly when he'd arrive. After I showed him the problem outside and what I had in mind for a new toilet inside he gave me a price. I told him I thought it was kind of high and asked him if he could do the job for an amount I suggested. I was taking into consideration the coupon they offered. He agreed but I still think the price was a bit high as after I agreed to the job, I got another quote that was lower. However, I liked Al and decided the extra $$$ might be worth it. I've come to realize you often get what you pay for. We scheduled the date and time for the work to be done. He was to arrive between 8 and 9 but called to tell me he was running late and when to expect him. He arrived when he said he would and did the work in a prompt, professional and clean manner. The toilet is what I wanted and the piping outside looks great. Al told me there is a one year warranty on parts and labor and it even says so on the receipt he gave me, I'm no longer worried about future plumbing problems as I've apparently found a company and plumber who is very reliable.

I am so mad that we were charged $300 for a two-hour "inspection" (that was never mentioned beforehand and lasted about 30 minutes) and then my neighbor upstairs was charged ANOTHER $440 for fixing a shower diverter and re-hooking up her washer which was hooked up incorrectly. Then came an estimate for over $1000 to fix a leak that might possibly exist behind the shower. Madness.

They are also good with setting appointments and adhering to them. They are professional even when we had to cancel appointments or when they sent someone out but could not gain access to the problem areas due to our property management's non responsiveness. I have to say that the Plumbing Department was more responsive than our building's management; they went out first and tried their best to help. I will definitely use their services again.

I had had someone from another company previously who seemed in a hurry and the connection just needed to be tightened. Started leaking again, so I called this company. The plumber was punctual, professional and replaced the leaky pipe (cw) plus the one for the hw, cleared the drain and and straightened the tap. I'm frankly not sure how much it generally costs for this type of thing -- was more than I expected and a lot more than the previous, but then the previous didn't do anything for the money.
