"My skylights are still leaking. They have came out initially. They leaked after the initial visit and they came out a second time. It is now leaking again.
Trela came out for a third time on August 20th to try to find and fix the leaks. They came out 2 days after I called Angie. They were responsive to the call.
I will wait until it rains to see if the skylights leak. I understand it is difficult to find Skylight leaks but I am hoping three times out to the house will do it.
I Will write a final review.
THANK YOU

"We are very satisfied with the replacement skylights (8 installed). Additionally, we are very impressed with how flawlessly NSS coordinated with our roofing company to efficiently install 8 skylights as an integral part of a much larger home improvement project. It was stress free for us. We would recommend this company without hesitation."

"I can't say enough good things about Larry, and Johns Affiliated Roofing and Masonry. We had a gutter along the east side of our home fall. It was badly installed to begin with. I talked to no less than 10 contractors looking for someone to hang a new gutter. Most didn't want the job because we live in an older home and don't have fascia, which means the gutters hang from the roof as many gutters in Chicago do. Some contractors wanted to reroute our entire drainage including one who wanted to run a downspout across the front of our basement door. One contractor actually told me that there wasn't enough room to put up ladders in our gangway and we should get someone with some scaffolding to put up the gutter. I'm not sure what kind of gutter service doesn't have scaffolding. Larry, from Johns Affiliated Roofing and Masonry came out on December 27th, and he explained everything he would do in detail. His plan made sense, and he answered every question I had. He reminded me of a roofer I worked with many years ago who did incredible work, paid attention to detail, and gave his best on every job. That guy retired years ago. Larry, and his installers came out on Saturday, December 29, in 27 degree weather, with snow on the ground, to take down the remnants of the fallen gutter, make roof-line repairs and install a new gutter. That was only two days after I hired them. They worked hard, explained everything, got it done in about three hours, and the job looks fantastic! Larry was a pleasure to talk to and to work with. If I'd known about Larry, and Johns Affiliated Roofing and Masonry, I would have hired them a couple of years ago when we needed a new roof put on. I will definitely recommend them to neighbors, friends, and family. Thank you for everything, guys!"

"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"Excellent service, fair pricing, and great quality. They arrived at my home to take make a repair and do tuckpointing on my chimney. Sam was on-site the entire time and made sure the work was done as discussed. They actually finished ahead of the estimated time, and the work was done beautifully! I will definitely recommend them to anyone looking for tuckpointing."

"They were prompt in fixing my windows and cleaned up after themselves. I would definitely recommend them. Very satisfied!!"
In most cases, installing skylights will add to the value of your home, as buyers tend to like the appearance of these windows and prefer houses that let in natural light. However, savvy home buyers who know there are water damage risks with improperly installed skylights will want information on who installed the feature and when. If you can point to a professional skylight installer with experience, then the skylight is more likely to provide a better return on investment.
While it’s possible to install a skylight yourself, we don’t recommend it. DIY window installations are far more likely to leak due to improper placement technique. Making even minor mistakes could lead to thousands of dollars in water damage, meaning hiring a local skylight installer from the start would be more affordable. Plus, working on the roof is dangerous, as is maneuvering heavy, bulky windows up and into place. Even if you’re an experienced DIYer, we strongly recommend hiring a pro to install a skylight.
Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:
Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?
Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?
What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?
Do you have references I can speak with?
How long have you been in business?
Are you licensed and insured?
The average cost to install a skylight is about $1,850, and most homeowners pay between $450 to $5,000 each. Your total price tag will depend on many factors, including the type of roof material, the pitch of your roof, ease of accessibility, the skylight size, and the type of frame and glass you want. You can potentially lower your price if you install multiple windows or skylights simultaneously. Remember to budget $500 to $2,500 for labor costs to complete this project.
Skylights might sometimes increase your homeowners insurance premium, but the increase is usually minimal. Some home insurance companies won’t adjust your premium with the addition of a skylight, so you can contact your insurer or your professional skylight installer to ask about any expected changes. It’s crucial to have an expert install the skylight, as insurance companies may not insure your roof or cover water damage that results from a non-professional skylight installation.
