"It went very well. The team at Trela is very professional and experienced! They were on time, cleaned up after themselves and went above and beyond to solve some frustrating roof problems we had in addition to the skylight replacement."

"I contacted probably 20 different contractors to install a new skylight. Some didnâ t return my call ; some were unpleasant; some gave me crazy high estimates. NSS responded promptly; showed up on time for estimate while being extremely pleasant and knowledgeable and completed the work in the timeframe they gave me and did a beautiful job! Thanks NSS!!!"

Customers say: Quick response

"I have dealer with various roofers for months. First it was difficult to get anyone to come out at all. Second, a few that did come out did not bother to even give me a quote. Third, the ones that provided a quote either did not address the problem I have or the quote was unrealistically high. Finally many are so busy that the work would have to be schedule weeks into the future. Johns came out gave me a quote on the spot and tells me they can do it in a week. I not only gave them the roofing job, I also hired them to replace my huge skylight which I had plan to give to another company. To make a long story short, they came out with a large crew and completed everything in 3 hours. If I ever need roofing work, John’s affiliates is the only choice for me. Great Job!!"

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

Repairing or replacing a skylight generally takes between a few hours to a full day. Simple repairs might take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem. The total time can vary based on factors like weather conditions, the accessibility of the skylight, and the extent of the work required, such as replacing the entire unit versus performing minor repairs.

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
