"Martin and Jake are the absolute best to work with. They were thorough, efficient, professional and so easy to work with for our basement structural work. They took time to explain what needed to be done, coordinated with different contractors (plumbing, electrical), and were able to complete our project on time while we were out of town for just a week(!!). I can't recommend Great Lakes Builders more - they were a pleasure to work with and we will absolutely be using them again for any future work we need. 5+ stars!"

"I would (and almost certainly will) work with AGGO again! We are buying a house and something came up where we needed a structural engineer to inspect something on very short notice. I reached out though Angi's to any company that might possibly employ structural engineers and Linda, a Structural Engineer with AGGO got back to me right away, first thing in the morning and was able to squeeze us in that very night. Linda was thoughtful and thorough. She careful looked over everything and even brought a large, bright light since it was after dark. She took her time, answered all of our questions, and gave us advice on other concerns and things to watch out for as well as reassuring us about things we didn't need to worry about in this situation. Even though she was probably working past her normal work hours to squeeze us in, nothing felt rushed or hasty."

"Marc did a great job on our garage expansion project! He was friendly and professional, taking all of our ideas and criteria and combining them into a great layout. The drawings themselves look great. We are still shopping the plans around to contractors, and Marc is always helpful with advice or ways to reduce cost. Would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for an architect."

"Our experience with AP Builder was great. Angelo was very knowledgeable and professional, keeping us informed every step of the way. This was a big important project for our home and I am extremely happy with how it came out! The cost was very reasonable and there were no surprises, everything was open and honest. I would definitely use them again and recommend to friends and family. Thank you AP!"

Customers say: True professional

"Thank goodness we found Faron & Associates, Inc. Our 97 year old home had structural problems that were out of the expertise of the 9 contractors that we had contacted. After explaining our dilemma to Home Advisor, they recommended Faron & Associates. Communication with Michael Faron was immediate. He returned our phone call the same day. We agreed to meet the next day and evaluate our problem. Mike arrived the next morning right on time and took measurements and pictures. He said that there were several ways to solve the problem and would prepare two alternative estimates. We received the estimates within the next week accompanied by a recommendation for contractors that could handle a very complex job. Mike was always available to answer questions and attended our meeting with the chosen contractor. Work was started within the week. Everything was done professionally and timely. The job turned out beyond our wildest expectations. The result was perfect and done start to finish in about 10 days with little disruption to our daily routine. Weâ ve already recommended Mike to a friend seeking a structural engineer. Thank you Michael Faron."

"Architect Kristin Kollias has provided me with professional and responsive help in the renovation of a vacant single family bungalow in Chicago that required extensive repair for compliance with the City of Chicago codes. She assisted in guiding me in obtaining required site plan for the residence; addressed the structural, electrical and plumbing details required; drafted and created the architectural floor plans that fit my vison of interior space; and facilitated in obtaining the necessary city permits from City of Chicago. Clearly she is a true professional and her services are greatly appreciated."

"We met with owner/senior architect, Firmin Senga to join us in the viewing of our desired property. We wanted to have an architect on board with us for reassurance that the updates we plan will work before we make an offer. He was very helpful."

"I placed a zip code for Starkville Mississippi.. I don't believe that the architect from Chicago would be able to provide me with the new construction in Mississippi. I don't know how much they would know about the landscape. I have received this notice but no phone call."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

For structural engineering projects in Chicago, prioritize high-strength structural steel and galvanized rebar to withstand temperature swings and humidity. Use air-entrained concrete for freeze-thaw durability, especially with local clay soils. Waterproofing membranes and insulated concrete forms help protect basements and foundations. Incorporating French drains and sump pumps is essential for managing the city’s high water table and preventing basement flooding.

Helpful?

Combining structural engineering with other upgrades in Chicago is often efficient. For example, pairing foundation repairs with basement waterproofing or drainage system installation can minimize labor overlap and reduce disruptions. Coordinating multiple projects streamlines permit applications and inspections, making it easier to schedule work around Chicago’s weather. This approach also helps maximize contractor availability and ensures all upgrades work together seamlessly.

Helpful?

When planning structural engineering projects in Chicago, consider the city’s expansive clay soils, deep frost line, and high water table, all of which impact foundation design. Seasonal weather can limit construction windows, especially in winter. Be sure to account for neighborhood zoning, setback requirements, and underground utilities, and check if your property falls within a historic district, which may require additional review.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering projects in Chicago offers immediate safety improvements and ensures compliance with local building codes. Over time, you’ll benefit from a longer-lasting home, reduced maintenance, and better resistance to harsh weather. These upgrades can also improve energy efficiency, prevent costly structural issues, and enhance your property’s value and appeal in the competitive Chicago real estate market.

Helpful?

In Chicago, homeowners often overlook soil testing, underestimate freeze-thaw effects, or choose materials unsuited for local conditions. Starting work without proper permits or failing to plan for weather delays can cause setbacks. Selecting contractors based solely on price, skipping detailed project documentation, and not budgeting for unexpected issues are also common mistakes that can lead to incomplete or problematic structural projects.
