"Blazer Electric was excellent. They installed a new outlet in my kitchen with causing minimal mess since this was a brand new outlet so I could install an oven range hood. They used all the PPE precautions and were pretty thorough and polite. I will definitely have them do my future electrical work when needed."

Small jobs welcome

"My husband and I had a laundry list of electrical services we wanted and as first-time homeowners we were very overwhelmed. Mike was efficient, knowledgable, and did the work at a reasonable price. He added multiple outlets to our basement AND removed an ugly chandelier from our living room, replacing it with two can lights. He completed both jobs beautifully and identified opportunities to eliminate extra hassle and cost for us. I'm certain that a different electrician would have talked us into additional steps we couldn't afford. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Chicago, always consider your home’s age and whether knob-and-tube wiring or aluminum wiring is present, as these require special handling. Weather extremes can impact electrical loads, so plan for robust solutions. If you’re in a historic district or high-rise, expect extra layers of approval. Also, factor in parking and building access, especially in dense neighborhoods where contractor vehicles may face restrictions.

Helpful?

Combining electrical work—such as home rewiring, panel upgrades, or adding smart home features—with major renovations in Chicago can streamline inspections and reduce overall disruption. Coordinating projects often means fewer permit applications and more efficient scheduling. This approach is especially helpful in older homes, where opening walls for one project allows for safer, code-compliant electrical upgrades at the same time.

Helpful?

Upgrading electrical systems in Chicago homes, such as installing modern circuit breakers, GFCI outlets, or whole-home surge protection, can significantly boost resale appeal. Buyers appreciate updated electrical work, especially in older neighborhoods. These improvements help your home pass inspections smoothly, reduce the risk of insurance issues, and make your property stand out in a competitive Chicago real estate market.

Helpful?

When hiring an electrical contractor in Chicago, look for proven experience with local building codes and common property types, such as brick two-flats or vintage condos. Ensure they carry proper insurance and are familiar with permit processes unique to Chicago. Contractors who regularly work in neighborhoods with older infrastructure can better anticipate challenges like outdated wiring or limited access for service upgrades.

Helpful?

Before starting electrical work in Chicago, confirm which permits are required and whether your building needs association or historic district approvals. Assess your current electrical system for outdated components, and plan for possible access challenges in tight spaces or multi-unit buildings. Organize all project documents in advance, and communicate clearly with your electrical contractor to ensure smooth inspections and timely project completion.
