"I have used Touchstone Group Construction on multiple projects in our vintage Greystone two-flat on Chicago's southside: new bath on 2nd floor that required a complete gut, variety of plumbing work throughout the entire building, complete reno of our basement install of Crown-Molding in 1st floor unit, install of light fixtures. We are so happy with results. The work is always fantastic, pricing is very competitive. This is a professional operation, they know what it takes to get the job done and they have the resources. And most importantly, renovation especially of a historic building always has surprises. At all times, they never back away from the issue and always, always come up with solution that is reasonable and affordable. I am getting ready to engage with Touchstone Group Construction again for some final issues that we need to address in this historic property and then.....we are going to buy another apartment building, probably a 3 flat and we already know exactly who we are going to call for all remodeling and issues. "We had planned to remodel first and second floor bathrooms of our 3 flat someday. Someday became now when a major drain leak from the second floor toilet meant both bathrooms would require demolition to fix the leak. 
We had definite ideas about what we wanted. We had done a small door replacement project with Pryor that had gone well, so we had established a bit of a working relationship with the company and with Mary in the office. We met with a designer recommended by Pryor and they provided some ideas but not a lot of changes to our overall approach. Ridas got involved as the project manager and we refined the detail plan and signed the contract.
When we met with Pete Pryor, he estimated 3 weeks for the work, 4 at the outside. Because of the nature of the project and age of the house (~100 years old) and our positive experience on the door project, we agreed to time and materials instead of fixed price for the project. in spite of some unexpected complexity in doing the demolition and a few changes on the fly, the 4 week time frame proved adequate. 
Ridas kept us informed of what was happening, responded to questions and requests for changes quickly. Despite the number of different trades involved, including sub-contractors, once work started, it moved along continuously with workers scheduled and actually arrived as planned and on time. Quality of work is excellent. When needed, workers stayed late to make sure things stayed on schedule. Plumbing and electrical work were done in a professional manner with improvement not only to current standards but unnecessary pipes were cleaned up and new conduits were placed in the most efficient routes.
Pryor is not the cheapest contractor but they have really lived up to the role of General Contractor, supplying expertise to manage the project and workers (their own and subcontractors), enabling us to worry about what we wanted, decorative and material choices and not have to ride herd on workers. Project has yielded high quality results with beautiful finish and upgrade of the bathrooms and of course fixed the plumbing leak that started this whole project.

"I've been working with John and his sub contractors on this property since August of 2013, and they have been patient, responsive, and transparent throughout, especially appreciated when my property insurance had to get involved and they worked with them to get them details, quotes, and insight, as well as being a much-needed professional advocate that I never would have been able to accomplish on my own. I have no doubt that John's professionalism helped speed the process along.
When I realized I would have to switch contractors from my first GC, out of everyone I called, John was the only one who brought someone with him for a second opinion on his assumptions, and even sent additional subs out to ensure the accuracy of the quote. I have had nothing but great experiences with him and everyone he works with since.

"We originally hired Peter to do the design only. We selected him over other architects and are pleased with the design. He listened to our ideas and provided very practical solutions and helped us with zoning variances. During the design phase, they added "and Builders" to their services. We selected Idea over a lower bid because of our good experience with Peter. The build is in progress and the sub-contractors are profession and do quality work. I will update this report when the build portion is complete."

"I hit the jackpot finding Fil & Thor Build. I live between Chicago and another state and wanted to complete my project while I was away, to avoid having to live through the construction. I had quotes from a couple of other contractors, all provided half baked quotes and were slow to respond to my emails. I contacted Thor Build online and got a return call from Fil soon after my initial inquiry. We made an appointment and Fil showed up as scheduled and was quick to send me an estimate as promised. Throughout the entire project Fil kept me updated on the progress. His communication is by far the best that I've experienced with any contractor. The project went smoothly and all of my questions were answered promptly. I also had a couple of additional small requests, which Fil gladly accommodated. I can't praise Thor Build enough for their professionalism and craftsmanship. Everything turned out exactly how I envisioned, and my place was clean when I returned home. The most amazing part is that all of this happened while I was away. I wholeheartedly recommend Thor Build!"
