"Apex Masonry installed block storage units in both baseball dugouts at Coeur d’Alene High School. From start to finish, these guys were fantastic to work with. The quality of their work is exceptional. I enthusiastically recommend them to anyone looking for masonry service!"

"Jeff is an amazing craftsman. We have a 127-year-old house. We don’t think any real work has ever been done to the foundation. He came in when we had a big leak after a snowfall. His solution was innovative and effective. We ended up using it throughout the basement! Great work, Jeff!"

"A dozen stones had broken off the northern exterior wall of our home. It was kind of a mess, and he did a terrific repair. I would describe it as "artistic", actually. You can't tell there was ever any damage !! Stetson is a very capable and conscientious person and he's very likeable too. Most importantly, he's a terrific stone mason. He was on time and charged us a very reasonable price. I don't know how it could have been a better experience. Stetson is definitely our new no. 1 person for all future stonework and masonry projects."

"I strongly recommend Nova Land works to anyone in the market. They completed a paver job promptly and the work was outstanding. The pavers were well-aligned and gave the house a brand-new look. I am very impressed."

Small jobs welcome

"Andrew did a great job digging footings and keys for a major wall/foundation. He even dug deeper on one area due to the previous excavator taking shortcuts and if he had not the whole house would have been built on poor ground and had foundation issues later! Very knowledgeable and communicative throughout. The price was also very fair and he did exactly what we discussed plus a little extra. I would highly recommend him!"

"We met six different guys doing work for Rock Hard Concrete, and all six were great guys, dedicated and extremely hard workers. Whoever is doing their hiring should get a raise. Rock Hard Concrete showed up when they said they would and completed the job on schedule. In today's world of flaky contractors and crappy work, Rock Hard Concrete was a pleasant surprise. I won't use anyone else for future concrete projects. We couldn't be happier with our new driveway pad."

"went very well. service was prompt, work was completed efficiently, thoroughly, and timely. everything was explained beforehand during bid in such a way that even someone who knows nothing about the work involved could understand. honest people who know what they are doing. treated our residents with respect. and help to maintain a safe path for them to travel through our main entrance. if you need the services they offer these are the ones to do it. fair pricing as well. only ones I found that actually guarantee the work they do for this type of job."

"Wow, the crew was punctual, eager and enthusiastic about the mountain of Cedar stumps and decaying wood strewn about. they took 3 loads to the dump, split some of the good wood for us to burn and left the site clean and safe. Their attitude and thanking us was an welcomed blessing. Thank you"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

Stone houses used to be much more practical, but with the advent of stronger and cheaper materials like concrete, they aren’t seen as much anymore. There are some parts of the world where it makes sense to build with stone, and they are usually next to a stone quarry. Stone is, however, very weather-resistant, which is why many homes near the sea and on mountains are still built with local stone.

Unless you’ve worked in the masonry industry before, it is in your best interest if you hire a pro for any masonry needs. Masonry-related jobs require a high skill level and can be extremely time-consuming. If anything goes wrong, a licensed and insured masonry contractor would be able to take care of the subsequent repairs, giving you additional peace of mind.

Brick can increase the value of your home depending on the type of masonry materials used. Homes generally have a higher resale value when they have brick siding, and brick is also easier to maintain (and lasts longer) than other types of siding, which can motivate buyers to make an offer.

Just keep in mind, however, that although brick can up the asking price when you sell your house, the cost to brick a house is also more expensive than other typical siding costs—so you’ll invest more in the project.

Yes, you can use a mixture of 1 tablespoon of bleach and a gallon of warm water to clean stubborn stains from brick. Do not use bleach without diluting it in water. Undiluted bleach may cause discoloration. You can use either Oxygen bleach such as OxiClean or chlorine bleach. Always wear protective gloves and eye protection when handling bleach.
