HandyWorks is a small Veteran owned handyman service that was started by Paul Boultinghouse in 2003 and has been providing exceptional handyman workmanship to the island of Oahu since. We put a lot of pride in every project we handle, from changing light switches to custom bathroom remodels, and our ultimate goal is to take our customers ideals and make them a reality. One of the ways we accomplish this by taking the time to meet with our customers at their location, at no charge, to discuss their project and how we can best help them. My team has fall protection and rigging certifications and also are lead certified. We believe in doing things correctly from washing your exterior, caulking your joints, priming correctly, to a finished product. It is less expensive to install a drywall ceiling. Drop ceilings are generally more costly to install than drywall, but they're also easier to install. Drywall sheets are heavier than drop ceilings—weighing in at about 60 pounds each—so if you hire a pro, they may charge a little more for labor. You should also factor in paint costs for a drywall ceiling. The least expensive drywall ceiling option is the standard, smooth variety.

Most drywall used for interior walls of homes is 1/2-inch thick. This size strikes a balance of being easy to handle and hang while being thick enough for the durability needed on interior wall applications.

You’ll get better results if you soundproof the whole wall. A hole through which light can pass can also let sound waves in. Acoustical or silicone sealant applied to holes and cracks can block enough sound to make a difference. However, the more layers absorb vibrations and slow or stop sound waves, the less noise you’ll have. 

Drywall mudding can be done in one day if the project is small and the desired effect isn’t too complex. If you need multiple layers of mud, one day may not be realistic. But a single room that requires little more than joint compound on the seams and screws can be done in a day or two.

You should always work from top to bottom when hanging drywall. There are a few reasons for this. For one, starting at the top makes it easier to create a straight wall between the ceiling and the wall. Plus, moving downward lets you avoid any awkward gaps at the top. It’s easier to deal with gaps at the bottom because you can cut the drywall to fit the space or cover the gap with baseboard trim.
