Presently being worked on, but Keenan was responsive to our requests and willing to work within our time frame and budget. Very helpful in his recommendations and provided necessary estimates and design proposals in prompt manner.

I recommend KapCity Construction wholeheartedly and without any reservations. One should know that I have never written an internet recommendation, but this case is different. Keenan and his team David, Sho, and chosen subcontractors, are professional, take pride in their craft, and are 100% trustworthy. They do it right, even the hidden stuff behind the drywall. They just do it right. During the demolition it became clear that several pre-existing conditions had to be addressed (crooked walls, weird plumbing, funky electrical wiring, off-level floors, cracked concrete, a broken main water valve, a broken pressure valve, crooked door jams – you name it, and you get the idea). Everything discovered that had to be addressed was explained extremely well to me, and several alternatives to fix it were suggested as options. Change orders were priced at a fair rate, and many, many smaller things were taken care of “just because”. I was kept in the loop at all times during the renovation via text and/or phone. The team made sure that dirt was kept from the house by protective plastic sheet were appropriate, and also cleaned up after themselves every single day before leaving. Keenan always asked if there is something they could do better to help the homeowner during the renovations, and special requests were accommodated as much as humanely possible. I am a big fan of HGTV Mike Holmes “Do it right”, and I learned a lot from that show on how to select a trustworthy contractor. In my humble opinion, KapCity is our very own local “Do it right” home construction expert.

What can I say? Just an awesome experience with Keenan, who was a pleasure to work with. Very professional, very knowledgeable, and great communicator. He has a great team. Believe me, he's worth the wait. I have a beautiful kitchen and bathroom. I hope to use him again for future work.

We interviewed Keenan Yoshida, the contractor, because KapCity was highly rated on Angie's list.  We liked him because of his very helpful attitude.  He met with us many times over a year to refine the final design.  He had many great ideas on making our design better. We were also using Home Depot Kitchen design because we wanted a competing bid and they were carrying the locally made cabinets that we wanted.  We went with KapCity over Home Depot for the remodel because KapCity had a much sooner start time (1 1/2 months vs 4 1/2 months); were only slightly higher in cost; and wouldn't charge for any delays.  We still bought our cabinets from Home Depot. 

The KapCity workers were great.  They were always punctual; and cleaned up at the end of the day.  A Porta Potti was part of the bid, and they protected our furniture and carpets with plastic. 
 
Keenan did a great job in scheduling his workers.  Keenan was overseeing every aspect of the job and performing critical tasks like the cabinet install. He kept us informed on the progress and the schedule for the next day. They cleaned up our house very well after the job.  They finished our job in 19 work days, just two days over their initial estimate. 

We had heard many horror stories about bad experiences with contractors.  Keenan is a real gem.  We are recommending him to all of our friends that are planning remodels.

Keenan and his crew are all stars. From quotes to questions and concerns he never let me down. He was always willing to come to the house at times that fit my schedule and answer all my questions. My wife gave birth SEVEN weeks early a week before we started construction. My baby was in the NICU for weeks. It broke our hearts........ very emotional. We decided to push forward with construction while we spent all day, everyday in the hospital helping our son gain strength. Keenan pushed his guys and they finished early, always asking about the family and respecting our house. Sure, there was some dust but every mjor renovation will have that, and they did their best to minimize the dust. I will dmit that I am picky and raised a few concerns over small issues I had. Keenan responded IMMEDIATLY and addressed every issue I had. Kap City went above and beyond my expectations....

Found KapCity Construction after reading their reviews on Angie's List, and decided to include them with two other contractors I had previously worked with on a proposal for renovating two bathrooms.

On Keenan's first site visit, he listened to what we wanted to do and offered suggestions where he thought it might help. While other contractors also do this, we felt Keenan really listened to what we wanted to do, and when offering suggestions, clarified the approximate cost imvolved.  He did not try to steer us one way or the other, unless he strongly felt that a particular suggestion was either the safer or more functional route.

We were pleasantly surprised when the quotes came in and KapCity was the lowest, as it made our decision easier. This is because we knew he was using certain materials that were slightly more expensive that another contractor, and he included certain materials as part of his construction cost vs. another contractor who had listed them separately as an allowance.

During demolition, Keenan suggested removing an existing wall separating the shower/toilet area from the sink. We had originally thought of that as well, but in an effort to keep costs down, opted to have the contractors bid on keeping the wall in place. Keenan felt strongly that it would open up the bathroom better, and offered to make the change at such a low cost, we could not afford NOT to do it. Bottom line, he did a great job relocating the wall and pocket door which opened up the bathroom very nicely.

We have nothing but praise for Keenan's foreman Jesse and journeyman David. Both take their work seriously and, as mentioned in other reviews, are very courteous and polite. Of all the contractors we have worked with, they are also the most conscientious about cleaning up after their work for the day. Jesse found and replaced a tile with a hairline crack. something that could have easily gone unnoticed. David did an excellent job removing and re-laying some shower tile mesh improperly installed by a subcontractor.  Keenan was on site almost every day, overseeing or working on the renovation himself. He always took temperature checks during the project to make sure they were doing things right in my eyes, and was serious about staying within the timeline he had proposed.

We are very happy with the finished product, and are comfortable saying that we would work again with KapCity in the future without going through a bid process. Keenan has already demonstrated he is a trustworthy contractor who offers a fair price and also cares about the quality of his finished projects.

It was difficult getting started (as stated by an earlier review), but if you are patient it is well worth it.  Keenan and his crew are very competent and professional.  We are thrilled with our new bathroom.  KapCity removed the 30-year-old tub and replaced with a shower.  We also added a new vanity and wc.  As we live in a 1 bed/1 bath condo it was essential we not be out of the place more than 5 days as that is what we allotted for a hotel.  Keenan had us back in the place within the five days and although we did not have a completed bathroom, we did have use of the toilet.  His crew were very respectful and kind and it was not an imposition having them here every day (I single out Dave and Jesse as they were here the most.).
Our bathroom went from old, dinghy and dark to bright and elegant.  We couldn't be happier and highly recommend KapCity Construction.  (I already have recommended them to people I know.)  The job from start to finish was about 2.5  weeks.  Keenan's people were on the job every day and they worked very hard.

Keenan and his crew, Dave and Jessie are outstanding! I have been using contractors over the last 20 years and I have NEVER had such an awesome experience. I am now coordinating my complete kitchen remodel, including moving of walls, beams and posts with him too. I would recommend Keenan to everybody. He is on top of his jobs and his crew 24/7. The crew is exceptionally clean, professional and easy to work around/with. Keenan is easy to talk to, work with and is a perfectionist with the work his crew does. He is very knowledgable in all areas and knows a lot of other subcontractors who can assist with projects. All jobs came in on time and on budget...who can you say that about!? I wish we had more "Keenans" in Hawaii.

Super - Keenan was on site every day to either perform the work or check on his workers. Quality work is of utmost importance to him.

We contracted to have our 40+ year old condo master bathroom remodeled, plus the guest bathroom needed to be finished after we fell victim to an unscrupulous contractor recommended to us, who promised each would take a week, but instead took over 4 months just to do the guest bathroom, and it wasn't completely finished. Keep in mind both bathrooms are small and after asking and calling around, a week or two is how long it takes for a project of this scope. By default the unscrupulous contractor abandoned the project which was just as well since we couldn't continue to tolerate this individual's unprofessionalism. After this unfortunate, very unpleasant experience, we did much research to ensure we got someone solidly reputable this time. We joined Angie's List in our quest and found Kapcity Construction and reviewers' good experience with the company. We got estimates from other contractors, but knew from the start we wanted to go through Kapcity.

Keenan impressed us with his professionalism and thoroughness during the estimate, and was accessible and prompt in responsiveness/contact. We also very much appreciated his ability and willingness to work with the fact that we already had most of the materials for the master bathroom since the previous contractor abandoned the project; we knew and understood that can be an issue and complicates matters; some contractors either weren't interested in taking over, or else were unwilling to use some of the materials. And of those who were willing to take on our project with the materials, we just didn't find them to be nearly as impressive and easy to get along with as Keenan.

The estimated duration of the project was 2 weeks; it finished in little over 1 week and that's taking into account there was an unexpected delay when we discovered the shower pan the unscrupulous contractor supplied was the incorrect dimension/drain hole in the wrong location, and a correct one had to be rush ordered! All throughout we were kept informed and updated throughout the entire project. We are very happy and pleased with the results, as well as the process which was very pleasant due to Keenan and his excellent workers.

Keenan and his team did an outstanding job on our renovation project.  He always made sure we were informed ahead of what was going on, and if there were changes, he was in constant communication with us and gave us options along the way.
Once they started our project, they were here every day. We also added on a few other things like putting on a new front door lock and patio door.  We were pleased how everything came together and looked so beautiful and we've had so many compliments.
We had a plan from the beginning and our dreams came true in the end thanks to Keenan Yoshida and his team.  They are true professionals who take pride in doing a great job. 
We cannot say enough about them and we highly recommend KapCity Construction if you're doing a home renovation of any kind.
  

Service and workmanship were beyond my expectation.  Very responsive to my needs and provided excellent ideas to make the project one that we are proud of.  Also assisted in shopping for hardware and made recommendations for building supply establishments.  We couldn't be happier or more satisfied with the finished product.

We had a little trouble connecting at first, but once we did, Keenan was very responsive.  They did a good job keeping the site as clean as possible.  His workers were very personable and good workers.  All the sub contractors he used were very knowledgeable and did good work, very professional.  He helped me with good ideas of what he has found works which I appreciated since this was our first renovation. He met me at the store and helped me pick out what he has had good luck using in the past.  It was very helpful.  He was at the site everyday either to check on the progress or work himself.  I felt like I could trust him.  He was very good about finishing the job in a timely manner, according to his estimate when the job was started.  We would definitely use him again.

From the moment I contacted Kapcity I've received nothing but exceptional customer service and workmanship.
This local company may be smaller than others out there but they are by far the best on the island bar none and I'll explain why.

We purchased a new kitchen from HomeDepot which included Appliances, kitchen island and cabinets etc.
At the same time we received an instillation quote from HD which came out to be $12850.00 which seemed more than unreasonable seen as we paid $8500.00 for our KItchen including appliances.

Disturbed about the HD estimation I decided I would contact as many contractors as I could on the Island.
In total I contacted 16 companies on the island and requested a quote.
This is how it went.
I was contacted by approximately 8 companies some provided estimates no quote under $10,000.00.
This all seemed very unreasonable for a kitchen approximately 8sq ft. Some companies did not even come to my condo and just provided a quote on the spec's I e-mailed.
When Kapcity contacted me by returning my phone call minutes after I left a message I was pretty exhausted with the process.
Keenan (the owner) called me. He was able to come and see the job almost immediately.
Unlike other companies Keenan really took the time to take a detailed look at the job to reduce the risk of surprises and he offered inexpensive solutions to some difficult aspects of the install.
He had his electrician and plumber look at the job to build an accurate estimate and it was clear to see he was committed to keeping the cost of the install down.
Not only is Keenan very experienced and skilled but he was careful not to overcommit and took the time to answer any questions I had while offering realistic economical solutions.
His estimate was $5700.00 and he did not go over that by one penny.

Keenan's team of workers were a great bunch of guys. Not only very skilled with many years of experience under their belt but any obstacles they encountered they overcame with ease.
You will feel very comfortable with this team in your home. Watching them work together you can see they had great work ethics and standards.
They left the job site and building very clean every day. They arrived on time and worked tirelessly with little breaks to get the job done. To see the sense of pride they have in their work and their relationship with each other including their boss Keenan is pretty rare but comforting.
Keenan and his team were a pleasure to have around.
The workmanship is nothing short of amazing. They really go the extra mile to satisfy you from point of contact on.
I should highlight that the conditions I watched them worked in were very tough.
Something I know deterred some companies from even providing a quote. On my 15th floor apartment there is no air conditioning, limited parking and in the apartment itself there was not much room to work.
At no point did I hear any of the guys grumble about this as I watched them work.
If you are considering a contractor be sure to contact Keenan.
I was referred to Kap City by my wife's co-worker who just received an estimate but was unable to hire them due to start date availability.
We are delighted with the stellar service/workmanship we received from Keenan & Kap City. He continues to surprise me with returning my calls very promptly and has helped me in ways that he does not profit from.
Currently we are looking forward to him working on our bathroom renovation.
My only other piece of advice I can give is if you plan some work contact him as far in advance as you can. They are a small skilled team which means they are quiet busy all the time. That said they were able to start work on my kitchen when I needed them.

This renovation was unplanned and an emergency when my toilet leaked into the downstairs unit causing water damage quickly. I had never been through the renovation process but had heard many horror stories about working with contractors, delays, etc. My husband and I read reviews and checked references with the state consumer protection agency and BBB before deciding who to select. Keenan and I were not able to connect immediately but his returning phone calls and making the time for a site visit once we did gave me a preview of what to expect. Time was of the essence-it required moving out (one bathroom and the water heater was removed) and boarding my dog on short-term notice- to prevent on-going damage to the unit downstairs. Keenan was able to fit us into his schedule, gave us a written estimate that was adhered to cost and time-wise, suggested vendors and brands to purchase and was available for questions and advice through out. I visited high-end fixture stores and the traditional home improvement stores-I am pleased with my choices based on Keenan's recommendations. Unforeseen glitches came up due to the original construction of the unit that were dealt with promptly so work could progress. I asked for a few add-ons and was accommodated. KapCity Construction is professional and nice guys to boot, they were always respectful, and mindful of the surroundings, I have neighbors in very close proximity, kept everything clean and orderly in a small space. Yes, yes, yes we will use them again.

After obtaining architectural plans for the renovation
(complete gutting, followed by renovation) of my 400+ square foot studio
apartment (located in the Pacific Grand), I selected KapCity from the bids that
I obtained for two reasons: 1) I was somewhat familiar with his work as a Board
member for apartment renovation which the Board required at another condo, and
2) his bid was reasonable. Mr. Yoshida suggested various vendors that I could
choose from for the selection of kitchen and bathroom cabinets, flooring,
lighting fixtures, appliances, etc., with the understanding that I could go
anywhere. Mr. Yoshida provided me with extremely helpful ideas in the design
process, including meeting me at a vendor to go over options, and spending
several hours designing and redesigning the kitchen to my approval.
Basically, the entire apartment was gutted, removing
everything (all cabinets, kitchen & bathroom sinks, flooring, toilet, bathtub
[replaced with a shower stall], fixtures, knocking down [with the condo board
approval] a lanai wall, removing an asbestos pop-corn ceiling, soundproofing a
former doorway entry, and removing an existing closet).
Since I was partially enclosing the lanai, Mr. Yoshida
worked with the Board of Directors at their convenience to make one needed
determination to demolish a wall with the Board?s approval. Likewise, I had
independently selected one vendor for the installation of lanai doors, and
another for the building of a Murphy bed & closet. Mr. Yoshida worked with
those vendors to make sure that everything would fit together: this was
especially needed for the lanai doors where the flooring had to be built up.
Mr. Yoshida sub-contracted  the plumbing, electrical, and ceiling
renovations with appropriately licensed individuals/companies.
Mr. Yoshida quickly responded to my phone calls, and to my
e-mails. He went the extra mile helping me move items to a storage locker
before and after renovation, and later retrieving the air conditioner from storage.
Mr. Yoshida accommodated me in various change orders (upgrade from Formica to
granite, frame a wall to the left of the refrigerator, add a drywall soffit
above the shower with recessed light, etc.); my additions added approximately
$6,600 to the original estimate.
Mr. Yoshida worked with the city and county inspectors to
sign off on the building permit which had been obtained, all of which was
transparent to me.
Mr. Yoshida suggested installing floor sound-proofing
material even though not required by the Board, which I did.
Since I was not necessarily under a fixed time frame, at my
request the start was delayed one month, which Mr. Yoshida worked into his time
frame. Likewise, after his worked was 99% finished, the installation of the
closet and Murphy bed was delayed 3 weeks by that company, so in effect Mr.
Yoshida did finish on time.
I am most pleased with the results, and feel that I got more
than my money?s worth; I highly recommend KapCity Construction.

I was very pleased with the work and professionalism of the whole crew. I had a short time constraint and they worked hard to meet my deadline. I will definitely call them again.

This is the third major project Keenan Yoshida has coordinated for us.  The last remaining jalousies were removed throughout the house, replaced with Jelwyn and Millgard plastic-coated double hung windows.  There were a few problems on the manufacturer side, but they are mostly resolved despite the slowness of response which was overcome by the persistence of our contractor.  The new tile is sharp (from 8" to 18") and finished with baseboard in the hallway and kitchen.  The sidelight was moved from one side of the front door to the other and markedly improves the entry. The double hung windows add even more light and curb appeal.  The house sparkled for our annual Open House.  Keenan never leaves us hanging, never is out of contact, never disappoints.  His suggestions and observations are invariably spot-on:  we're already thinking of Phase 4.

I've used Keenan twice. The first time I had him do a small job -
replacing a small wooden picket and adding sidewalks around my house. I
was impressed with his ability to listen and make great suggestions to
improve on what I wanted. The job took three days, He and his crew were
always punctual and neat. Unlike other contractors I had used that
didn't come every day, Keenan came everyday until the job was completed.
The work was outstanding and better than what I had expected.
 Because
of this experience, I hired him when we decided to change our kitchen
cabinets. After discussing our ideas with him and getting his
suggestions, we decided to add the two bathroom vanities to the
remodeling. Further, based on getting more ideas from him, we decided to
change the flooring in the hallway and bathrooms from vinyl to tile.
The house was a mess for almost two weeks with all the construction, but
Keenan went out of his way to accomodate us and was very flexible to
our needs. Oh, we also had him change both toilets while he was changing
the flooring. This guy is a real craftsman and smart. As he was working
in the kitchen, we decided to add more overhead cabinets and had to
figure a way to expand the countertop so it could support a large 42
inch granite slab that we decided we wanted to give us more counter
space. He custom built cabinets and added an extension so the granite
could be supported. He must have been an engineer in his earlier life.
We must have made more than a dozen changes during the remodeling.
Keenan was always open minded and supportive. When the job was finally
done (almost three weeks with all the changes we added) we were so
pleased. It was better than what my wife and I imagined. No words can
describe what a great experience it was working with Keenan. By the way,
his crew came everyday until the job was finished so there were no
delays and the best part, they were neat and cleaned up thoroughly every
day before leaving.
I've had some bad experience working with other
tradesmen so it was so refreshing finding someone like Keenan. He is
dependable, easy to work with, smart and open minded. Almost too good to
be true now days. You won't go wrong with using him.

At the beginning of the job Keenan walked us thru the process and let us know what was going on.  Then on the first day of work Keenan and his crew put plastics and cardboard on the carpets, they protected surrounding items also.  The ripped out and carried away the old tub, toilet, sink and other items the same day.  The did all of this while letting us use our other bathroom.
They installed all the new items and did all the work without disrupting our daily lives.  Keenan gave us advice of the materials and fixtures we should install.
All the work was done on time and very professionally, I would recommend Keenan and Kapcity Construction for any remodel job that needs to be done.

Keenan Yoshida is a gem--I almost resist telling others if it will make him too busy to do our jobs.  He is the reason we continue remodeling/calling him back.  His first job was to redo a master bath with two sink consoles, a walk-in shower and tile all-around.  Then he expanded a second bedroom and redid that bath as well:  same walk-in shower, although smaller, console sink and bulkhead for commode.  All windows were replaced and a sliding door to the lanai added from the second bedroom, in addition to push-back Anderson doors from the dining room.  He even added storage over the bedroom/bath in the form of a drop-down ladder/loft.  We will have him back soon to finish replacing the windows and expand the counter on one side of the kitchen to allow for more preparation space.  He LISTENS, responds very quickly, always looks for the most reasonable price on materials, oversees work effectively, and finishes on time.  Can't recommend him highly enough.
