He did fix and repair the various tasks assigned to him.  He did a decent job.  He worked unsupervised so he came and left and worked around his busy schedule while he attended to other jobs in between while finishing this project I assigned to him.  Therefore the job took longer than I expected.  He quoted me a rate higher than we originally agreed to and I felt he was taking advantage of me and the situation.  I did not like that style.  He started out great but it ended with great disappointment and a sour note.

I was satisfied with all the work that was done in my home.  Mel made sure the work was done in a timely manner, which I really appreciated because I had lost power in my kitchen during the holiday season.

Shawn is a nice person, and he does quality work.  A clear-cut, easy-to-understand and accurate invoice was sent promptly after the work was completed.  I look forward to working with Mel and Shawn again!

I was very happy with Mel's work, he really does a great clean job at a great price. I never met a handyman in Hawaii who said "pay me after the job is done", every handyman I spoke to wanted money upfront and make me sign a contract. I have never met a more sincere dedicated handyman than Mel, he treats the job as if it was his own. Good luck finding a more reasonable priced handyman than Mel, the job would have cost me twice as much if I had used someone else.

Update 4-6-2015:  Mel came back to do the job right. The first time it was at night which may have been a factor in not getting it correct. When he came back, he repositioned the hinges and stops. Now the door looks like it was done by someone who knows what he is doing. Angie's List was a great incentive.  Thank you.

He was running a little late so called to let me know. He is very good in listening to your needs. His extensive experience means he can do a great variety of projects. He stayed late to finish the job. He wanted to vacuum up the saw dust but I saidi would do it while he used Mr. Clean magic sponge to wipe down the cabinets.

Mel responded right away to my text and we scheduled a time within a week, even though he is super busy. He worked for several hours on the installation because a) the machines didn't come with all the necessary parts and 2) I probably talked to him too much. He has a giant van with a ton of tools and materials inside. He's got lots of experience with carpentry, construction, plumbing, etc. and prefers to do lots of different kinds of things. He's also served as a counselor for runaway youth and a high school volleyball coach. He stayed until late to make sure that everything was done right and nothing leaked. He also cleaned up the area really well. Then he texted a couple of days later to make sure everything was working okay. Thanks, Mel! We will definitely use your services again.

Mel is a true professional.  Courtesy, knowledgeable, a real problem solver.  Also very reasonable cost wise.  After using many handymen over the past few years, just want to say that THIS GUY IS GREAT.  You won't  be disappointed.

Mel and his brother Dave are top notch people. I found Mel on Angie's list I am very lucky I called them up. Besides being professional, personable, knowledgeable and hard working, you have got to check out Mel's van. He stocks the most tools, gadgets and supplies I have ever seen. Mel's brother Dave helps on jobs. Dave is very efficient and provides lots of valuable advice. Dave helped with a lot of complicated electrical work and he worked overtime to get it done. I was impressed at how hard working these brothers are.

Mel was given the tough tasks of rebuilding a kitchen cabinet sink base to fit an ultra heavy / high-end farm apron sink. It was a retrofit of cabinets I cannot order more of and he made ever cut with precision. The final product looks like it came from the factory. If any of you buy a farm sink, you will understand how difficult it is to install and appreciate Mel's expertise. It is very rare to find such good men and you bet they are helping me with more renovation projects on my fixer upper.

Hospitality tip: They like Top 40's Country Music, "Ice Sparkling Zero Calorie" beverage drinks, L & L BBQ, Panda and other hearty fast food meals. I also have a fan and AC where they work to make it more comfortable.

He has done several jobs for me. He was just the best. He didn't seem to do anything he couldn't do or didn't attempt to do if he couldn't do it. I was very impressed specially with the replacement of my double doors and screen type door. I guess everything was right where I have access to money, the timing and everything. He came and did other things first for me and he replaced the garbage disposal bin of a 2- story house. He even helped to modify a little bit better a messy job I have done before. It was just great that he has vast knowledge. He did his best and looked at your situation and realize income wise and he tries go ahead and help you to do a good job with something and do it on a more modest level. I was very impressed with that. He has a lot of mental dexterity. He would be there when you want him and all. You tell him and he knows how to work. He is someone who really cares about what he is doing and I get very impressed with his sincerity and his ability to do things. He has a flat rate. You ask him and he tells you the price He doesn't lie and he is very open and I think it is very reasonable and affordable. It wasn't super cheap but it wasn't super expensive either. Otherwise I have not probably utilize his services. He has a vast knowledge. I can see his adaptability and versatility. He was always there when he said he was going to be and his work is excellent for us. He didn't waste anytime. When he get materials, he will be calling me and be sure to give me price and always try to get the best prices to do the work. He really tries to help out the best that he can and do the best work.

This man's contributions to our expansive townhouse renovation are without measure.. The realtor who got to see both the before and after views of his work immediately asked for his contact info. His work spanned over a month and was without exception excellent, allowing us to save enough money to keep on budget while others were indicating projected costs of over twice what our budget allowed. He performed door replacement, plumbing (including toilet seating for during some flooring project) ) as well as fixture repair and replacement,. He repaired door locks, easily replaced plastic ceiling covers for fluorescent lights which required specialized cutting ( the previous handyman had to drive downtown to get this done by some glass cutting place). My "to do" list for him was at least seven items for each visit. He tackled them all with ease. He is a gifted problem solver and honest, honest, honest with his rates, often undercharging to be fair. I needed assistance during a peak construction period and while four different people ignored my initial requests for help, he returned every phone call or text. I simply cannot say enough kind words for his great assistance, guidance and advice.

First of all, the house is circa 1958, and everything is not square.  Framing was already in place, so the doors were not pre-hung, making the installation tricky.  Mr. Furtado is a very creative problem solver, has a tremendous amount of patience and went to extraordinary pains to make it all work and be visually attractive.  He is a real perfectionist, and made many trips in order to get things just right.  The trips were undertaken on his own, not prompted by any complaint on our part.  He is very knowledgeable about available products, and shopped for what was needed as issues arose.  When the bill arrived, I was more than satisfied with the number.  In fact, I felt he should have more money, but he refused. 
I would definitely hire him again, will refer any of my friends who have a need, and hope that the next job will be straightforward and earn for him a fair profit!

Went well, fair reasonable hourly rate was charged.  All the repairs holding up well so far, hopefully I can say the same thing the next time we have a wind storm in Kaneohe.   Would definitely use Mel again for any future jobs.

The light was purchased from Lighting Direct via online purchase.  The light was a pendant light (drum shaped) hung from a 4' chain from a kitchen ceiling just under 14"  The light did not come with any instruction to assemble the light.  Mel assembled and hung the light wihout any problem.  The process was smooth and professional.  The light looks great and helps transform the kitchen to a more modern look.  Mel works in an efficient and professional manner.  His service cost is very reasonable.  I would recommend him to anyone in need of a handyman in Honolulu.

He is first class. Really, he is the best. He's not only a hard and quick worker, but he is also very knowledgeable about many things. He's very pleasant, he's always wearing a smile. I would highly recommend him. He'd do anything I asked, even if it's not in his job description. He's unusual in his kindness and his brilliance.

Mel is now my "go to" handyman when I need help. I am very satisfied with his work. He is pleasant and professional. He comes in his blue van loaded with tools ready to help.

It was a bear of a project but Mel gave it his absolute best.  Kitchen drain was too high so p-trap was lowered 3 inches to accommodate disposal.  Disposal was set on the left instead of the right due to the 50-year old pipes on this house so an extension cord was needed.  Refrig doors were removed to get it into its stall and the technology was very complicated.  Next time, I'll have Sears install and have the plumber just run the waterline.  I didn't expect the waterline to run thru the cabinets, I actually wanted it to run under the house but looking at the instructions it did say cabinets.  The faucet and soap dispenser needed to be tweaked after original installation and Mel came back immediately. The dishwasher works like a charm.  Mel asked several questions before beginning his work and purchased the necessary supplies.
