"MHR was our 3rd plumber to come to our home and give us an estimate. Based off the first two who had more reviews we didn?t think we could afford a tankless water heater. It was 6800 plus with the first two estimates. When Justin arrived he was friendly and you could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. He asked us some questions to better understand why we wanted tankless vs the tank we had. No one else did that. He then corrected our thinking that it would provide hot water to our master bathroom faster. No other technician did that. He told us about a recirculating pump that he could put on our existing tank heater to save us money and solve our issue. It was only 1100$ but we still wanted a tankless so he did it for 4800 and we were shocked at his price. We even asked him if it was used lol. We have had it now 2 months and we are so happy. He even text us a week later and asked if we were satisfied and if we had questions. I will only choose MHR from now on!!"

"Arrived on time and well groomed young man named Brant...the phone staff (Adriana) was excellent. The work was performed in a very professional manner and saved me many dollars on future plumbing jobs. Replacing the pressure valve relieved the water pressure (which was way too high) from the county. Saving me the cost to repair valves or other hoses."

"JJ did a great job. He checked some ideas in the hopes of avoiding having to cut a hole in the ceiling, which I appreciated. He actually found other leaks in addition to the pin hole that caused the original stain and replaced the entire section. He also discovered our water pressure was well above code and reset it."

"The service was very good. They did a good job. The price was very, very affordable. It was hands down in comparison to other competitors. They were very service friendly and they had multiple guys come out and it was really quickly done. We were real happy with their service. The only thing we didn't like was that we wanted to have a tankless water heater installed in our house and they don't do that kind of work. They said they had to have special training. My problem is that I still can't get enough hot water in our house to meet all our shower needs. I still kind of want to go that route. They are pricey. We thought the work they did would correct our problem and we can tell a difference but it still isn't heating the water up like we had hoped it would. We understood that the water has to heat up and no matter what we do it won't solve the problem. My experience went them was excellent. They were older guys that came out and they have been doing it for 30 years. We haven’t had any problems with the leak they fixed."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

A thermocouple is a pretty simple device. It simply tells the control valve if heat is present. Most water heaters can use a universal thermocouple, provided it's the correct length. Getting one that's long enough for your appliance is crucial for success. However, some water heater models require model-specific thermocouples, which is why it's essential to take your existing one to the store to find the right match.

Electric water heaters use a high amount of electricity, so they’re best for homeowners who subsidize their electric bill with solar or who live in an area with inexpensive electricity. For others, gas water heaters versus electric water heaters may be the more cost-effective solution, with the added bonus of heating water quickly and efficiently. No matter which you choose, you can lower your water temperature as low as possible to keep costs down.

It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.

Installing a water heater without a permit can result in high fines—as much as hundreds of dollars per day, in some areas. It can also void your homeowners' insurance and cause problems when selling your home because it violates local building codes and safety regulations.

The average cost to replace a water heater is around $1,325, with a typical range of $900 to $1,800 for a standard replacement. The final price depends on the type of heater (tank vs. tankless), its size, fuel source (gas or electric), and the complexity of the installation. A simple one-to-one replacement will be on the lower end of the cost spectrum. However, if you are switching from one type of heater or energy source to another, you can expect labor costs to be significantly higher due to the extra work involved. It's also worth considering that while gas and electric heaters may have similar upfront costs, their long-term operating costs can differ based on local utility prices.
