"Justin and Phil provided me with the best quote for replacing my old water heater. They even diagnosed the problem to fix the thermostat in my water heater and gave me a quote if I wanted to stick with my old water heater. I appreciate that level of transparency. I decided to replace my water heater since it was an old unit. They did a solid job replacing it. My water heater is located in my attic and they handled the job like a pro."

"Update from 20 Jan 2026: I`ve been a repeat customer of Keep Smiling Plumber, Electrical, Heating and Cooling in the past for several home-related repairs. After having an unfortunate experience with Keep Smiling PEHC during my most recent service, I had some misgivings about the company and whether I would return as a customer. In regards to their customer service, everyone that I`ve engaged with (technicians, onsite supervisor, receptionist) has always been professional and courteous which goes a long way with me. The issue that I had was technical in nature and left me with some dissatisfaction regarding the quality of work. After speaking with leadership of this organization Mr. Powell and Ms. Amy ,I believe that they hold the highest standards and expectations for their employees and ensure that any work-related issues are duly addressed/resolved. I can sincerely say that they have regained my confidence and trust in contacting them in the future for my future HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing home needs. The manager I spoke with told me that there wasn`t any way the damage of the pump could come from the technician doing a drain and flush of the water heater. He told me that it would cost $1200 to replace the pump on the water heater. After speaking with the manager at Keep Smiling, I called another company which I`ve seen before in the community and spoke with a plumber and explained to him what happened. The technician at the other company told me that the pump could definitely be damaged if the pump was still plugged up and not turned off while the water heater was being drained and flush. I called the manager at Keep Smiling and shared those details with him and he replied that he understands what I`m saying but there was nothing he could do about it. I told him that I don`t have any reason to lie about any of this and felt very frustrated and cheated by the fact that I went in expecting for them to do a maintenance check for $59 for plumbing but ended up spending a $1000 for new. "JJ did a great job. He checked some ideas in the hopes of avoiding having to cut a hole in the ceiling, which I appreciated. He actually found other leaks in addition to the pin hole that caused the original stain and replaced the entire section. He also discovered our water pressure was well above code and reset it."

"The service was very good. They did a good job. The price was very, very affordable. It was hands down in comparison to other competitors. They were very service friendly and they had multiple guys come out and it was really quickly done. We were real happy with their service. The only thing we didn't like was that we wanted to have a tankless water heater installed in our house and they don't do that kind of work. They said they had to have special training. My problem is that I still can't get enough hot water in our house to meet all our shower needs. I still kind of want to go that route. They are pricey. We thought the work they did would correct our problem and we can tell a difference but it still isn't heating the water up like we had hoped it would. We understood that the water has to heat up and no matter what we do it won't solve the problem. My experience went them was excellent. They were older guys that came out and they have been doing it for 30 years. We haven’t had any problems with the leak they fixed."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

It takes between one and three hours to replace a hot water heater element, depending on whether you hire a pro or do the work yourself. For example, a professional plumber with all the necessary tools and experience can often finish the job in one to two hours, whereas DIY will take two to three hours because it'll involve more preparation and troubleshooting.

The lifespan of a water heater depends on its type, usage, and maintenance schedule. Traditional tank-style water heaters typically last between 8 and 12 years, though the range can be as wide as 6 to 15 years. Within this category, gas models often last 8-12 years, while electric models may last 10-15 years. In contrast, tankless water heaters have a significantly longer lifespan, often lasting up to 20 years or more. Factors like heavy usage, hard water, and sediment buildup can shorten a unit's life. To extend its lifespan, it is crucial to perform regular maintenance, such as flushing the tank annually and scheduling professional inspections. If your unit is over a decade old and shows signs of rust, leaks, strange noises, or inconsistent heating, it is likely time for a replacement.

The right way to vent a gas water heater is to have a pipe directly upward or slopes upward out of the house. Because hot air naturally rises, this type of venting will efficiently ensure that all gas moves out of the house. Your system may rely on fans or blowers as well.

Due to the high temperature, using stainless steel vent pipes for your tankless water heater’s exhaust vent is best. Also, it is safe to use a flexible vent duct as the exhaust fan. If installing the exhaust fan yourself, make sure you are using heat-resistant silicon to connect the exhaust vent and the duct on your water heater.

Flushing biannually, checking the anode rod, and temperature settings maximize equipment lifespan while reducing surprise costs.
