Customers say: Super punctual

"James Altman with Altman Handyman Services is a real professional. He has completed severals jobs for me: shed renovation and deck stairs and post replacement. He was very courteous and a good listener when I was explaining what needed to be done. He completed all jobs in a timely manner, was very thorough and always showed up at the times he said he would. Also pricing was affordable."

"I was looking for a handyman in the Covington area. I looked on Angieslist, found Andrew's company and read the reviews. There was one review that was unusually negative. After reading that review, I realized that this was someone who didn't understand the process of construction and repairs and most likely tends to complain frequently. It was the only negative review so I took a chance and hired Andrew. I am so glad I did. Andrew was so easy to work with. I own this rental home, but live 2,600 miles away. I was able to communicate effectively with Andrew via email, texting and Facetime. Andrew was clear about what needed to be done. I made payments through Paypal and at the end of the project, I traveled to Covington to see the results. I was very impressed by what I saw! Everything was done professionally and on time. Andrew went the extra mile to do some minor jobs that were not in the bid, but he did them anyway. I have remodeled several homes in the past and I know a good job from a bad one. This job was A+!! Andrew is my new handyman and I am so thankful that I found him and took this chance. I know that if there is ever an issue with the rental, Andrew will get the job done. If you are considering a handyman in Covington, ignore the one "F" review and look at all the others. You will see that he is an excellent choice."

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

In Chamblee, address issues like water leaks, HVAC malfunctions, electrical hazards, or foundation cracks promptly, as local weather and soil can worsen these problems quickly. Projects that impact safety or moisture control should never be delayed. Cosmetic updates or non-urgent improvements, such as painting or fixture upgrades, can typically wait for a convenient time or milder weather.

Helpful?

Chamblee homeowners often prioritize open layouts when remodeling, especially in mid-century properties. Smart home upgrades, such as automated thermostats and security systems, are increasingly sought after. Energy efficiency improvements—like better insulation and modern HVAC—are popular due to local climate demands. Outdoor living spaces, kitchen renovations with durable surfaces, and refinishing original hardwood floors are also trending in the area.

Helpful?

In Chamblee, a common mistake is starting work without checking if permits are needed, especially for electrical or plumbing updates. Homeowners sometimes choose materials that aren’t suited to Georgia’s humidity, leading to faster deterioration. Overlooking the impact of clay soil on foundations is another pitfall. Ignoring HOA guidelines or the unique needs of historic homes can also create costly delays and complications.

Helpful?

In Chamblee, you can safely tackle tasks like resetting GFCI outlets, clearing minor drain clogs, or caulking around windows to prevent moisture intrusion. Touching up paint or cleaning gutters is generally manageable for most homeowners. If you encounter signs of mold, persistent leaks, or electrical issues beyond basic fixture replacement, it’s safest to contact a local professional with experience in Chamblee homes.

Helpful?

Many Chamblee homes built from the 1940s to 1970s may have lead paint, asbestos, or outdated wiring, which can complicate renovations. Slab foundations can make plumbing or electrical changes more challenging. Properties on sloped lots or with dense underground utilities may limit access for certain projects. If your home has seen multiple remodels, hidden structural changes could also add unexpected complexity.
