"I called Nathaniel after another contractor found suspected asbestos tape in our crawl space. Nathaniel was able to arrange a same-day appointment for me at a price that was the best of all the many companies I called. He arrived on time and was professional, courteous, and competent. I plan to continue with them for the abatement of any issues his testing uncovers and would highly recommend his team!"

"Removing old wallpaper revealed mold on the dinning room and adjoining kitchen wall. Contacted Abatement Contractors (ACU) and left a message to contact me. Within 20 minutes got a call from Terri Cowart, owner of ACU, and scheduled an appointment for the very next day. Terri inspected the wall and there was no question the mold had to be removed. A previous test by another entity determined the mold was of a particularly toxic variety, but not active. I also had an air quality test done by a third party and it showed the air inside the home was okay. The inactivity of the mold and it being covered by wallpaper would likely explain why there was no moldy smell that would have put me on notice of a problem. In addition, I had begun to remove old kitchen tiles and dinning room flooring and Terri suggested an asbestos test on the flooring. Because the house was built in 1959, it was likely that asbestos was present. Terri took a tile sample and had it tested and confirmed the presence of asbestos. The test was $50.00 and paid at time of her inspection. Terri prepared a proposal to remediate the mold and remove the asbestos. After responding to my questions and providing clarification on a few points, I signed the proposal and the work was scheduled for the following week. The crew of four arrived on time and promptly set to work covering the work area in plastic and air cleaning equipment and began removing the moldy sheetrock and floor tiles. Tia, the crew chief, saw to it that all the work was done in accordance with the proposal and answered all my questions and concerns. It took a good 8 hours to set up, commence the remediation, and remove and secure the sheetrock and flooring. The inside wall and studs were then painted with a mold resistant coating. However, the kitchen tiles could not be removed without taking out the subflooring and expose the floor joists and crawlspace below the kitchen. I had not prepared for this, but Terri allowed me time to find someone to put in a subfloor after removal of the old flooring. So the following week, Tia and two crew members again set up and began removing the kitchen floor which took about three hours."

"Thanks to Cathy, Tony, and Joe, and for great service from the appt set up, to the estimate, to the actual cleaning. Joe was in and out very quickly and did a great job. Some of the stains I did not think would come out did, and a week later have not come back. I was ready to replace the carpet but they did such a great job I don't need to. Thanks so much."

Outside The Box Construction is an environmentally-aware general contractor that can accomplish all of your building needs while integrating sustainability and energy efficiency.
"Outside The Box Construction (OTBC) was hired to remodel my upstairs neighbor's bathroom due to the tile in the bathroom shower leaking water and staining my bathroom ceiling below. The first thing I noticed about OTBC during the upstairs remodel is how they cleaned up the stairwell connecting our units every day and were very polite and courteous as they were coming and going. I monitored their work upstairs as the project progressed and was so pleased with the results, that I asked them to give me a quote for a full bathroom remodel. The scope of work included: demoing the entire bathroom and replacing support beams under the floor that were rotted due to water damage which caused the floor to sag several inches, remove all debris from the site, install sheetrock and insulation, build a walk-in shower to replace my tub, tile the shower and bathroom floor with new tile, paint walls, install a new exhaust fan, install a new vanity and toilet and install all of the new bathroom hardware/accessories I purchased. In other words, do EVERYTHING! Also, the price was very reasonable, especially considering all of the different things they were required to do. Kris Walker was my main contact during the project and was very helpful and always available to answer any questions I had. He was able to help guide me through the process from beginning to end. From purchasing the tile and hardware, all the way through to the construction/installation process. OTBC stuck to schedule they gave me for the project to be complete. This was very important since I could not live there until the work was completed because I only have one bathroom in my unit. Most importantly, my bathroom looks BEAUTIFUL! All of the workmanship is top notch and the tile looks amazing! The walk-in shower makes the whole bathroom look so much larger than it used to. I LOVE IT! I will definitely will use them for my kitchen remodel!"

The cost for asbestos removal is between $1,200 and $3,200 for average homeowners. This cost could be as little as $450 or as high as $6,000, depending on the affected area's size, the location of the asbestos, and the type of asbestos you're dealing with.
For example, removing asbestos from attic insulation averages $11 to $25 per square foot. However, removing asbestos from an HVAC unit is more expensive, at around $35 to $55 per square foot.
No, you should not remove asbestos from your home yourself. It is not worth risking your health, or the health of your family.
There are strict laws regarding the demolition, encapsulation, and removal of asbestos. Not only could you face potential violations, but you could be putting yourself and others at risk. If you don't have the proper asbestos removal gear, you could inhale the asbestos fibers, which could lead to lung cancer or mesothelioma.
Since DIY asbestos removal isn’t the best option to save money, there are other steps that you can take to help cut costs when dealing with this project. After speaking with your asbestos removal expert, discuss if encapsulation is an option. If it is, you can save between 15% to 25% on overall project costs over demolition and disposal. In addition, when speaking with your professional, discuss if there are any tax credits available for your removal project. Finally, check with your homeowner’s insurance to see if any removal costs might be covered. However, be aware that this is usually only applicable if the asbestos is due to a covered incident, like a tree falling into your roof.
It can be scary to need asbestos removal from your home—you might be concerned about your family’s health, the overall condition of your house, and what repairs might need to be done. You can ask your asbestos consultant some questions to ensure your project is completed as safely as possible. Some questions to ask include:
Do you have the proper credentials for removing and disposing of asbestos?
How long will this project take to complete?
Have you worked on a project like this before?
Do you use new protective gear at each job site?
How do you prevent asbestos fibers from being released into the home?
How big is the crew you will send?
How do you clean up after a project?
The most common sign of asbestos is the age of your home. Asbestos was banned in drywall in 1977, though many products still contained asbestos until the 1980s. Indicators of possible asbestos in your home include:
Your home's age, if built before 1980
You have a home with vinyl flooring or millboard that was installed between 1952 and 1982
Your home has corrugated roofing
Your home has walls made from cement sheets
Your home has vermiculite insulation
