"I contacted several different companies for an install of hot water heater for over the phone quote. I wish I would have contacted Current Flow first. Jason was on time, accurate to the quote from range on the phone of $280-$310 to install our already purchased hot water heater from Lowes...professional, knowledgeable, and quick in taking care of the heater. He also explained everything to us. I like a company that goes above and beyond in an extremely overpriced community of Fort Myers. Iâ ve already shared your cards and hopefully our neighbors will have honest plumbers to use for their services. Thank you"

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

The average lifespan of a water heater is eight to 12 years. If your water heater is approaching its first decade of life and is giving you problems, talk to a plumber about your replacement options.

Keep in mind that certain parts of a water heater, such as the anode rod, may need replacement long before the heater itself. An anode rod often has a lifespan of three to five years.

Yes, you can replace a current tank water heater with a tankless model or vice versa. If you’re maintaining the same fuel source—gas or electricity—the switchover should be smooth. A conventional tank requires open floor space, while a tankless model can be wall-mounted. If you’re switching to a tank water heater, you might need to clear space for it. Gas-powered tankless water heaters need a large volume of gas when they start running to heat the water instantly. You might need to increase the size of the gas line when going from a tank to a tankless model.

Yes, hybrid water heaters can be noisy — noisier than traditional water heaters. The sound they produce is often compared to the hum of a dishwasher. Its noise comes from the heat pump’s fan and compressor as they work to pull in and compress the air. While it’s not totally disruptive, especially if the unit is installed in less frequented areas, like a basement or garage, it’s something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to noise or if the unit will be placed near bedrooms or living spaces.

Basements, specifically those without any air conditioning, are the best location for a hybrid water heater. These rooms are less likely to experience extreme temperature fluctuations, which can affect your hybrid water heater’s efficiency and performance. Basements often have more than enough space for their tanks and proper air circulation. Hybrid water heaters can also be a bit noisy, but putting them in your basement will keep the noise away from your main living areas.

If your water heater is about to celebrate the big 2-0, you may want to consider sending it off to greener pastures. While the water heater may seem to be working well, any conventional, tanked water heater over 10 years of age is at risk of failure. If your water heater is 20 years or older, your best move is to replace your aging heater before it completely breaks down.
