Along with over 50 combined years of experience in the field, we regularly attend professional conferences & training courses to stay up to date on the newest technology. Because we are local, we also know how important reputation is. Professionalism, Reliability, & Courtesy aren't optional. "Samsung 18 cf Top freezer refrigerator/ freezer, 3 years old (2 years out of warranty). Freezer section is cold, but not really freezing cold at maximum output. Certified tech disassembled parts of the refrigerator, test probed and reassembled. After 45 minutes, Certified tech declared that the compressor needs to be replaced. Cost: $985 plus tax. A new Samsung refrigerator -- same exact model -- costs $900 today at Best Buy. The tech knew all this up front and said as much during the visit. So, I was handed a repair estimate and a bill for $89 covering the tech's visit. Certified's repair cost is ridiculous, outrageous price gouging (I checked Samsung compressor replacement part cost online, labor costs, etc.). I am convinced Certified is running a scam the goal of which is not to repair appliances, but to collect a profitable $89 per visit, regardless of whether or not someone is dumb enough to accept and proceed with Certified's insanely overpriced work, and that's assuming the tech is even competent enough to perform it. You be the judge. BTW, this is not a "fake review from a local competitor" as Certified's business owner replied on a negative Google review of this same outfit. Shame in YOU!"

Appliance Repair questions, answered by experts

When thinking about repairing or replacing an oven, considering the “50% rule” will help you the most. This rule states that if your oven is over 50% of the way through its lifespan, or the cost of the repair is more than 50% of the price of a new oven, then replacing it will be more cost-effective in the long run.

However, if you have a newer oven that only requires a simple fix, there’s no need to scrap it altogether. Taking care of the more minor repairs will help you get the most out of your oven for longer.

Choosing the right appliance installation company involves finding an installer with a positive reputation among past customers, works with your specific appliances, and won’t void your manufacturer’s warranty. We recommend you ask the following questions to any installer you’re considering hiring:

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Can you handle the gas line or water line connection I need?

  • Are you certified by my appliance manufacturer for installation?

  • Do you have any customer references I can call?

  • How many years have you been in business?

  • Do you offer discounts if I need multiple appliances installed?

Most appliance retailers have dedicated installation teams that can tackle the delivery and installation process simultaneously. Unfortunately, just because a retailer sells a specific appliance brand doesn’t mean that its installation technicians are certified by that manufacturer to complete the installation. You could end up with a voided warranty if the installer isn't certified, costing more money down the road. It’s best to find an installer that is certified by your appliance manufacturer, even if it means paying more or dealing with potential scheduling conflicts.

While the line can't be removed, a pro can place a cap on the end to stop leaks. Contact a pro for a service call and speak with them about the related costs of either capping or removing the line altogether. Capping a gas line will cost between $75 and $150 while removing it will start at $250.

When it’s time to dispose of your old AC unit, first make sure a pro helps you recover any refrigerant left in the system, per federal law (the Clean Air Act), according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Check with your city’s waste management department, or ask the retailer you purchased the new AC unit from if they take old units for recycling. Another option is to check for a Recycling Facilities Servicing partner of the EPA. These facilities are trained for proper refrigerant removal and AC unit disposal.
