"Bolt Electric is a wonderful, professional, responsive, fair price company! You really couldn’t ask for a better company for electrical work! Called Bolt Electric number and thought I was calling a Clearwater location as I live in Seminole, FL, so I was surprised when I realized the electrician Zack had come from Sarasota, but I am within their service area. Zack said they work in Pinellas County all the time, very normal for them. Bolt Electric was great in all respect of scheduling and electrician was on time. Their pricing was better than the other two companies I requested quotes from and extreme professionalism when they came to my home. Greatly appreciated. Bolt was wonderful in sending electricians who put up with my year-old puppy who thought Zack was his new play toy and was very kind to put up with the puppy, while trying to preform electrical work. Only let puppy drive him crazy for a few minutes, but he was so kind to be so nice about Finn wanting to play with him. I don’t write a lot of reviews, because I don’t want to write something bad about a company. It seems so many want to hurt a company, when not necessary and I don’t write good ones unless company has been truly wonderful! Believe me Bolt Electric of Sarasota is a wonderful company because of their professionalism, expertise and great prices!"

"MarkGen Electric did an excellent job upgrading my electrical panel and installing an air compressor in my garage. The work was clean, well-organized, and clearly explained from start to finish. They handled the panel upgrade professionally and made sure everything was safe, code-compliant, and ready for future use. The compressor install was done right the first time, with attention to detail and proper setup. I highly recommend MarkGen Electric for anyone looking for reliable, high-quality electrical work."

"From the time we first called until the job was done... everyone was helpful, friendly, professional, prompt and responsive. All the information, including prices, was accurate and clear. They gave plenty of documentation at every step and kept us informed at what was coming next. The tutorial at completion was helpful. Because we have elderly parents living in the house we appreciated their extra caution and courteousness to wear a mask and keep a distance between us. Oh, and we had a really old electrical panel that needed an upgrade. They were able to do that for us when they put in the transfer switch. Looking forward with peace of mind to this hurricane season."

"Fast, reliable and transparent. I recently hired Jantz Electric for work on a house. There were a few appliances that needed upgraded electrical cords, we needed GFCI outlets installed, and additional outlets that needed fixing and repair. The work was very professional, quick and all done in a timely manner. I highly recommend Todd for his services!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Full home electrical inspections are mandatory if you’re buying a new home, but if you’re just looking for a safety checkup, you have some flexibility. If you don’t have any concerns and your property is relatively new, a basic inspection is usually sufficient. If it’s been a long time since your home was last inspected, or it’s an older home, a full home inspection can help catch any concerns that may fly under the radar.

Outlets with only two slots have no ground connection. That’s more common on very old outlets, which means it’s more likely the outlet won’t be polarized. You’ll have to closely examine the slots to see if there’s a size difference indicating polarization. Keep in mind outlets this old are usually out of code and should be replaced if you’re doing any electrical work.

People who have experienced blown fuse have occasionally tried to fix the problem by placing copper pennies in the fuse box. While they are good conductors of electricity and can seemingly “fix” the issue,  they don’t protect against short circuits or fires. Putting pennies in a fuse box is dangerous—the best solution is to call a professional electrician to fix the problem.

While the National Electrical Code (NEC) does not set a strict limit, a common guideline is to have a maximum of eight outlets or receptacles on a 15-amp circuit. This rule of thumb, which equates to about one outlet per 1.5 amps, helps keep the total electrical load safely below 80% of the circuit breaker's capacity. It is important to consider the power demands of any devices or appliances that will be plugged in, as overloading a circuit can lead to tripped breakers or create a fire hazard. To ensure the safety and code compliance of your electrical system, consult with a licensed electrician.

Using too many Christmas lights can cause your circuit board to overload which can put your tree at risk of catching fire and potentially damage your home’s electrical grid.
